Is there any software that would allow you to use your existing tv card like a sling box?

Yes. Can't think of the name though ...

Thanks cheapdude, I was just looking for a slingbox too.

EDIT: THe software is called ORB.

Does the Slingbox have a hard drive in it?

No, it doesn't. None of the Slingboxes do, as all they're supposed to do is take a video signal and send it elsewhere over your broadband connection.

I picked up a Slingbox AV from Best Lie two weeks ago and hooked it up via standard component cables (yellow, red, white) to one of the STB that Verizon provided and to my router via cat5. Device was flawless and easy to use (especially combined with the 2Mbit upstream from Verizon's fiber service, having high upstream really helps). I ended up returning it because my connection at the university dorms really sucks (home's upstream bandwidth > dorm's downstream) which made viewing unpleasant.

I think you mean composite, not component right? Hey, did the slingbox av come with an S-video cable? I'm about to order from monoprice a bunch of cables and wondering if I need to order an extra s-video cable. Thanks.

How much upload speed do you need for this?

My timewarner only give around 384kilo bits per second. Not even enough for 6 computers.
