Slim line PS3

Well judging my sonys consoles always having two version (ie, one big and one smaller version) do you think they will do the same with the ps3? the 1st playstation was transformed into the almost palm-sized ps-one, the playstation 2 had the fat console and then they came out with the slimline, and the psp now has a 'lite' version that is smaller than the original.

Now since the PS3 is gigantic i personally think they should make a smaller version.

That's what I'm counting on. I'll buy my Slim PS3 in 2012 (hopefully with 5 free Blu-Rays).

lol supposedly when he world ends.... at least you can go down knowing that you saved money on a blu-ray layer as you watch spiderman..

the size is pretty much was is making me lean more towards a 360. its just way to big and the shape is odd

I think that's a silly reason, unless you plan on stacking things on top of it. Yeah, the PS3 is pretty big, but not THAT much bigger than the 360. It is heavier, too. However, the PS3 also doesn't need to have a power brick...it's all built in.

I wasn't a huge fan of the PS3 design, but it grew on me.

PS3 fat: It's about as tall as a receiver but not as wide.

The power supply, wi-fi and blu-ray drive are all built-in so it's tiny compared to a 360 + brick + HD-DVD + mess of interconnects.

PS3 slim: not likely for several years until they make one with a 1.8" hard drive (or flash drive) and the CPU & GPU shrink to 45nm to cut power use enough to shrink the built in PSU.

I think Sony made the PS3 specifically to have the odd shape so that you don't stack things on top of it, but rather have it at the very top of all your other electronics.

If you see a PS3 slim, it won't be for at least 3-4 years. The assembly for the BD drive alone is pretty elaborate, then you have the PSU size as well as cooling on the CPU and graphics chips.

All of those things will need to go through several iterations before Sony can think about making a slim version of the PS3, I wouldn't wait for one if you're considering a PS3.

I'd expect them to move the PSU outside of the case, if there ever is a slimline PS3. I'm sure it could probably be built now for an exorbitant cost. It would also be deafeningly loud in order to not overheat.

A slim PS3 will probably be possible in 2 or so years when the Cell and RSX chips are both manufactured on a 45nm process, thus allowing other components to get smaller - PSU, cooling systems.

Also, your original poll question doesn't really make any sense. 'will they' and 'should they' are completely different questions. Should they? Yeah at some point. Will they? Doubt it
