Slightly strange system instabilities

Chaps,

I've been having some problems on my desktop that I hope someone here can help me with.

A while ago I was getting system freezes that were preceded with the mouse cursor becoming corrupt. I thought it might be overheating, so I stuck Core Temp (running E6600) on my 2nd monitor, but under stress (several hours of CSS) the temp doesn't go over 62C. This was a few months ago and I hadn't noticed the problem in a while, but the other night my system froze in exactly the same way, and it's now crashed twice in 2 days. Interestingly, it only seems to crash from the desktop, its never crashed mid game.

I am planning to reinstall windows because I'm going to upgrade my system hard drive (RAIDed raptors :-D) so if it is an OS/software error the problem might go away. However, I'd appreciate any insights you guys may have.

Thanks in advance!

Core rig:

Intel E6600
ASUS P5WDH Deluxe S775 (using Akasa AK960 S775 Heatpipe DCor)
512M SAPPHIRE X1900XT
CORSAIR VS 1GB(2X512)DDR2 5400

Does the track light on the mouse turn off? Could be a motherboard problem, check if any other USB devices have similar problems. I know that Abit AM2 motherboards have had some bad USB problems lately, don't know about Asus.

I've never noticed any problems with other USB devices. Is there anything I can do to probe them all? I don't know if the mouse cursor is a symptom of the root cause, or a more direct cause of the system problems. Any other advice? I'm really stuck, at the moment I have to money to replace any defective parts, but obviously I need to know what I should be focussing on. Gonna run a full memtest over night. I'm almost hoping to see errors tbh.

Could it be a power problem? Or overheating gfx? I'll keep the Catalyst control centre open for a bit while playing and see what it tops out at.

Update: Left memtest running overnight, when I left for work this morning, it had passed 32 runs. Anyone else got any ideas please?

Update: 70 runs of memtest, no problems, so guess its not RAM. Anyone else? Pleeeease!
