*Slight* niggle with new 19" monitor...any suggestions?

Well, my brand new CTX PR960F monitor and after about a 10 minute warm-up time, I'm extremely happy with the image and colour produced. However...the one niggle I have at the moment, oddly enough doesn't involve the picture at all.

When the monitor's on, I can hear a little 'clicking/fizzy/static like' sound clicking every couple of seconds coming from the side of the monitor's back. It's not loud but it's there...if you see what I mean

Bare in mind that I've only been using the thing for a couple of hours - might I just need to let it 'burn in' or something? Or should I be worried? All I've done so far is give the monitor a little shake and I also tried the degauss, but the slight fizzy sound still emanates every few seconds.

Anyone got any suggestions/ideas as to what it might be? Thanks

Could be components warming up. You may also hear those noises when you power it down as components cool. But during normal operation it shouldn't be noticeable.

I have had the same monitor for 4 months now, and I haven't heard any buzzy fizzle-clicks coming from it. Sounds like it could be coming from the electron guns on the back of your picture tube. This may not be a serious problem, but in my book, noise is a bad thing. Is this monitor easy to return? An anoyance now may be a problem later.

For diagnostic purposes try to rid your niggle by employing a slight wiggle - or maybe a more insistent jiggle.

I'm serious - I really want to be constructive here!

Thanks for input - I think I'll give it at least 4 or 5 days to settle before making any rash RMA's, but if it came to that, I'd definitely be willing to send it back..

btw- is it ok to leave the monitor on all night, to see if that gets rid of it?

Could be a slight break in the insulation or end seals of the high tension lead. Turn all the lights in the room off and look through the case holes and try to see if you see any discharges.

If you are going to shut it down at night go for it, likewise if you will leave it on all the time and let it go to standby after 20 minutes like I do then do that. You shouldn't go easy on it, if it fails it goes back.

Thanks, I can't see any discharges as such. I can see a yellow/orange light but I'm guessing that's normal..

I'll give it another look at and a bit more work tomorrow afternoon thanks again.

I believe I have seen a similar post some times ago in this forum about a Viewsonic mon having the same problem. THe user email Viewsonic and they replied that it is a normal situation for a brand new mon. This will last about 1 to 2 weeks.

I suggest you turn on the mon for at least 6 hours a day and wait for 2 weeks. If it still having that sound, then you should RMA it. Meanwile you can email CTX and ask for explanation about this noise.

Are you sure it's not static? Could very well be.

BTW, Viewsonics suck ...
