The MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum or Epox EP-9NDA3+ will be well-suited for that, though from what I've heard, the A8V isn't really a bad board either.

Touché. I'm not much help in this thread. 🙁

I hope for your sake that VIA learned how to program drivers in the past three years. At least they don't have a memory controller to code for now, but I still don't trust their AGP drivers based on what I've seen and heard from users of the chipset.

Heard too many bad things about the MSI K8N Neo 2 Platinum having problems. I want a stable board. How does the Epox EP-9NDA3+ hold up?

I have heard lots of good news about the ASUS A8V- Deluxe.

n/p, this is a nice side discussion. I think I will just go with an AGP setup. Maybe I'll go with the epox nF3 board and a decent 6800 NU... I may be able to softmod, but it doesn't matter much, I don't mind gaming at low resolutions. I figure I will wait a year or two before I upgrade to a PCI-e setup. By then I can get a new mobo and video for only a couple hundred bucks...

how exactly are you justifing a 'college pc' as one that needs a GeForce 6800 GT?

since you know that really isn't the case, why not just waste the most money you can NOW, and do it again in 2 years..
