2 Physical CPU with quad core each should give a better performance boost than SLI system, I'd like to see Anandtech or tomshardware make a test to this claim.

I'd like to see comparison in how much more performance you get if you have 2 quad cores with 1 video card vs 1 quad core with 2 video cards.

Your claim wouldn't stand much of a chance. You can add as many cores as you want, but in many cases you would then be limited by lack of fill rate, pixel shading, and other GPU related processing.

oh let petey dream. Dream away you little dreamer! Let your mind take you where it will!
Besides, SLI AND CrossFire scale so well, no wonder we all do multi-gpu, right m8's!?!

video cards are generally the limiting factor in games.

And most games have a hard enough time using 2 or 4 cores... there is no such thing as a game that can use 8 cores. Not yet.

Hard drivers are the limiting factore in any system

How would you coordinate the cache in 8 cores (4 separate L2 caches), there is a hard enough time keeping cache fresh in just a Quad core (2 separate L2 caches)

Performance in what? If you were building a rendering engine or something else that can use all those cores then, sure, gimme the processors, if you are trying to build a gaming system then you're probably better off with the SLI

IMO SLI is overrated, 1.3 or 1.4 the performance for 2x the cash and only have the ability to use a single monitor. Hmmm..
