SLI totally blew away ATI...

Mrvile

Lifer
According to anand's latest numbers and some of anand's older numbers, two 6800GT's SLI'd has twice the FPS of a single X800XT PE, even in Farcry (which is Direct3D based)!! The X800XT numbers are kinda old, but if those are the real numbers than you can get twice the power while only paying like 25% more for two GT's instead of a PE.

Someone wanna confirm the benchies?

*cough*

Wouldn't that make fvcking sense in the first place?

That's like saying WOW two brains are better than one. Holy *@#$.

If x800 xt was SLI'able then it'd do as good as 2 6800 GTs.

An X800XT costs about 5 - 600 bucks.

Anyway my friend kept telling me that XT PE even blew away SLI, and I knew he was wrong, plus I'm making a point to myself 😛

twice? that makes no sense when one GT can't beat one XT. Does SLI somehow make each GT more powerful? Or were you talking about that single anomaly called Doom3?
LOL

Well to be totally correct x800xt's can cost anywhere from $455 on up. I got mine for $465 (retail box). Still about a hundred more than a 6800gt.

6800gt $368 x2 = $736.00

x800xt $465 x2 = $930.00

difference = $194.00

Hardly double the price though. Sorry I know people can do basic math, but all the posts screaming that 2 xt's would be double the price of 2 gts was getting to me.

(prices are the lowest I could find for both cards, on pricewatch and other sites)

But SLI is definantly interesting, I think I might have to steal the 6800gt back from my wife.

Actually the price difference between one X800XT and two GT's is $271. This is the figure that matters, and makes this more of an option only for people with way too much cash to blow on video cards.

That is true zenwhen. too bad ATI didn't have something like sli.

Man nvidia sure wants to be on top again thats for sure. Don't know if I would want to be ATI right now.

Still, 271 bucks is like 40% of the price of an AVERAGE X800XT.

nVidia blew ATI away even more in terms of Doom3 and HL2, so personally I think it's worth the extra 271 bucks.

another ignoramus post. ati's cards (x800 series) are up to 20 percent faster in hl2. wow

that's bvllshit in terms of half-life 2. ati blew away nvidia on half-life 2 and almost every other game besides doom 3. needless to say, the real world difference between the video cards in performance are pretty much negligable, save a few frames or so.

its pretty stupid to compare 2 6800 gt's in sli to an x800 xt. why not compare dual x800 xt's against a single 6800 gt?

anyways, ati has a plan to do sli or something similar to sli (their own name for it), to compete with nvidia. they were against it before, but since so many people are willing to run sli or want to upgradable path of sli in the future, it's a pretty decent chance for profit.

even in this argument, i'm not biased towards video cards at all. i just like the better performing one. 😀

my only realy bias is probably amd, but that can easily change once intel starts to sell cpu's for cheap and ones that perform superior, but that's by a long shot. 🙂

Wow I think I just got blown away by a bunch of fanboys...

Anyway I was just going by what the numbers said, I usually lean towards Radeon myself but whatever guys. If they're wrong, they're wrong and I have much to learn.

ATI is working on their own SLI solution.

From Anand article:

All is not quiet on the ATI front though, rumor has it that they are also planning on some SLI-like solutions on both the chipset and GPU side. Given the flexibility of PCI Express to support multiple high-bandwidth slots for graphics, we would think that there's no reason (other than driver support) to not want to have SLI support within a product family.

A year from now, everyone will want:

Dual-core AND dual processor (essentially quad processors) with SLI video cards, on-board SATA II, PCI-E audio & HDTV cards, 600W PSU, running 64 bit WinXP-Second Edition.

Or something like that...

and the funny part is that SATA II will still be just as useless and a huge marketing ploy to pay more for drives just as it is now 😀

1600x1200
GT: 51 fps
SLI GT: 105 fps

1600x1200
GT: 39.4
X800xtpe: 47.2

GT posts a 30% performance increase between the two tests. To be fair, you have to add the same to x800xtpe. this would make a single x800xtpe score of 61.1 fps.

this would make the SLI GT score only 71% faster than an x800xt, not over twice (>100%). and this is for 55% more in cost.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! 😱

lol OMG pwnt!! (hides in a corner)

Ok guys, I decided that two 6800GTs upfront isn't quite worth it, I'll stick with a single X800XT and save some cash, maybe I could totally turn around and go dual opterons? 😛
