SLI Ready PSUs

So I've been looking in on the forums now and again to keep up while I wait for the DFI Nforce4 board to come out for a new build. What exactly are these SLI Ready PSU's equiped with? Is it just an extra lead coming off the PSU? If so, what kind.. 4 pin, sata.. ect. Been searching for the answer but its late and I assume I'm missing something.

Also, currently using a Tt 480w in my XP system. I assume it wouldn't be able to handle SLI because it only has 18 amps on the 12v rail?
 
I'm only guessing here. We extrapolated some guideline numbers on maximum watts used by PC components. Understandably, I did the enumeration according to my MOJO"s configuration -- five fans using 2.2 x 12 watts or in excess of 26 watts. Two HD's, two opticals, 1 GB of RAM and so on.

We estimated that if a single high-powered video card could consume 50 watts, we would double that for SLI.

For the MOJO configuration, the total came to 480 watts with the extra 50 added for SLI.

Feel free to comment on my naive assumptions here. I, too, would be interested in hearing why my assumptions are wrong or my "ballpark" is incorrect.

MOJO's config keeps changing or I'd put it in my sig:

3.0C P4 (currently@ 3.6 Ghz)
1GB DDR500 OCZ EL Gold's
2xHitachi 7k250 RAID0
Sony DVD-burner; TDK CD-RW
ASUS (nVidia) FX5950 Ultra AGP

All my fans are currently running at a little over half their top rpms, except for the CPU fan which is spinning at its top-end.
 
BonzaiDuck, I agree with you completely. The time has come for PSU builders to step out of the dark ages and crank up the juice. I'm sure most builders would want to stay away from having TWO psu's, even if your case could house them. But if no one steps up to bat, having two psu's might be the way to go. What a rat's nest of wires that would be huh?

I'm assuming it has 2 PCI-E video connectors. It's nice I suppose but don't sweet it too much, I think all cards come with adapters if they use the new connector.

As for your PSU I wouldn't use it power an SLI system 18A is pretty weak for 480 watt PSU. Look for something with 24A+, this Tagan is nice.
