Sli Question

Since we can now in "theory" have 2 vidoe cards in the same system. Could we be able to drive 4 indepedent displays as well? Does nvidia's software support this?

NVIDIA says the drivers support it, but their physical hardware doesnt.

An OEM would have to design a board with all the chips on one card, or use a card with the SLI connector for dual GPU cards.

Its an EEs worst nightmare 😛

The only place i could see it happening is Extreme high end for workstation OGL rendering.

MAYBE IT IS POSSIBLE TO CONNECT 4?

"Gigabyte?s Dual Graphic technology allows to put in a couple of ATI?s RADEON VPUs for boosted performance, even thought it does not provide efficiency comparable to NVIDIA?s SLI. Gigabyte?s Dual Graphic allows to install two graphics cards and plug in up to four displays to one PC.

EDIT

excuse me it is definitively not posibble

"One thing that the 3D1 loses over other SLI solutions is the ability to turn off SLI and run two cards with more than two monitors on the output. Personally, I really enjoy running three desktops and working on the center one. It just exudes a sense of productivity that far exceeds single and dual monitor configurations."

what the article means is that with to sli cards working on sli mode only the ports of the main card will be available, if u disable sli then you have to separate cards that will run 4 displays but only in 2d mode not 3d.

But if u think that longhorn uses 3d mode to display desktop u learn that in 2 years nvidia and ati will be forced to support 3d acceleration on more than 2 displays considering that there lot of ppl that uses this kind of work dektop.

You can use 4 displays, but this is not a function of SLI. In fact, you would need to have SLI disabled if you have an SLI board. So, in effect, you could have 2 PCI-E xfx 6600GTs (just for example purposes here), with both having 2 DVI interfaces, hooked up to an Nforce4 board (or any board with 2 PCI-E slots for video cards). Hook up 4 independent displays.

I'll try to find the review site that did it and post back...

Yes you can connect 4 monitors, but not in SLI. SLI is for one monitor through 2 video cards. Set your SLI board into single mode and your all set. (besides buying 4 monitors). Windows will handle t6he rest.
