I had 2 7900 GT video cards from EVGA running in SLI, well some caps broke off one of them so I want to get a replacement. If I buy another EVGA 7900gt will it work in SLI mode or are they too particular? What if I got another brand of 7900 GT would that work? Or am I going to have to buy 2 brand new 7900 GTs to get them to work in SLI? Does anyone know if EVGA will repair the 2 caps that broke off if not free perhaps at a lesser expense then buying a new one? I have not used the card since they broke off and the card wasn't in use when they did.

Yeah, EVGA will replace the caps, at a very small charge. You can also use any 7900GT, as long as it has the same core and memory speeds. Well, they used to have to have the same core and memory speeds; I'm not sure if they still do.

Thanks for your response myocardia.

I tried calling EVGA and they said that they would not replace the caps and that the only thing they could do was replace the whole card if the caps fell off due to bad soldering. I talked to the tech support department would there be another department in EVGA that would replace the caps? Have you actually had EVGA fix a card like that in the past?

Also are you sure that you can use another brand other then EVGA 7900 GT if it has the same clock speed?

Well, they don't need to have the same core/mem speeds, the faster clocked card will down-clock to the speed of the slower, so technically you can use any card you want. (Thats the same model)

Thanks for your response zerogear, do you know if EVGA or any other company would replace a couple of caps that broke off?

Also, maybe this was just an issue in the past but I thought I remember people talking about SLI and how even if you got a card from the same company if it had different firmware that it would not work in SLI mode.

Have the drivers gotten better to the point to where even if you have different firmware/company card if it's the same type for example if they are both 7900 GT's they will work in SLI mode?

well, eVGA has lifetime guarantee, so I wouldn't put it past them unless you bought the cards 2nd hand, then I think they charge a little fee to replace them. Well, it used to be that way, AFAIK the later releases of nVidia drivers support different cards with different clocks (different firmwares) and clocks the faster card, as I said before to the speed of the slower card.

Cool, good to hear that they have gotten that taken care of, I know it used to be a real pain esp for people that bought one card then waited a while and wanted to get a match. Well, here is the thing I know I'm not under warranty since I physically damaged the card but I'm willing to pay them to put the caps back on, the thing is from talking with their tech support I don't think they would put the caps back on even if I payed them.

What is the difference between the evga 7900 GT CO and the 7900 GT KO?

CO and KO difference is the type of heatsink. You might want to talk to the manager of their support department

Thanks again zerogear, I've actually read that the KO heatsink is better. I was just checking to make sure that both the KO and the CO would work together in SLI which from the sounds of it, they should.
