I'm starting a new system build and I'm only planning on using one vid card. Are there other advantages to SLI boards besides the dual graphics card support?

I'm currently trying to make up my mind between a mobo w/ an Ultra chip set or one with SLI. I'm tempted to spend money on the SLI boards, but I need a good reason. :)

Thanks,

Ron

You can buy a DFI Ultra D and mod it into SLi if you need to later. I modded mine, and I'm not even using SLI...

Buy what you need now, chances are very good that later on if you decide on SLi, something better in motherboards will also be out. Think about it, $150 buys a great motherboard, SLi starts at what $700 for two top video cards, so why would you even think about spending that much and keeping an old board.

generally SLI boards are better quality and have more overclocking features. besides, SLI IS a good pathway to take in the future if you won't get a new comp for 3-5 years. CrossFire boards are the same way.

Lot of the SLI mobos are going with heatpipe cooling on the chipset too which is a distinct advantage for cooling and less noise which is nice. Thats probably the one biggest gripe I have with DFI. They still use a fan on their mobos.
