A friend of mine is looking to build a very nice gaming system for the holidays. He is working with a 3k budget and wants the best of everything. He wants me to build the system for him, but before I give him a list of components I wanted to know which video system I should get for him. Should I get him a Crossfire system or an SLI system? From what I can gather, SLI has a few bugs right now (tearing, compatibility, ease of setup) and Crossfire has a better method of display. I don't know which to choose. Help me out.

Better method of display? You talking about the dongle?

SLI. For now anyway.

I thought I read that crossfire uses one more image rendering method than SLI? Maybe I am wrong about that....

SLI is currently more mature and better supported. After being out for several months and dozens of updates, Nvidia would have ironed out all the bugs by now. Crossfire just came out and is still not very widely supported yet.
For the best bang for the buck, SLI is the way to go.

Alright, thanks guys. I am going to build myself an SLI system over break becuase it's become pretty affordable with the new DFI SLI Ininity board out, but he wants to spend the big bucks on his system so I wasn't sure.

SLI is better than Crossfire in my opinion but the Crossfire is still new and with time should improve. Till then though SLI over Crossfire.
