SLI or Crossfire benefits ONLY if games support it?

Can I say 100% with confidence that if a game is not coded to take advantage of a 2 or + GPU setup and if the drivers for the GPU's don't have profiles made for the same game, there is absolutely no improvement in performance for that game by going SLI or Crossfire? Is that close?
Games don’t “support” SLI/CF; it’s all done at the driver level. About the only thing the game can do is make itself more AFR friendly by buffering frames in a certain way and/or reducing inter-frame dependencies.

You can try to make a profile at the driver level in unsupported games, but there’s still absolutely no guarantee that you’ll get a performance gain.
