SLI Mobo- Do video cards have to be identical i.e. from same manufacturer / same revision etc.?

I'm thinking of upgrading my machine and can probably afford only one 6600(GT?)... I was thinking of getting an SLI mobo and picking up one 6600 now.... and then maybe about 6 mo later add another 6600...

So, when I do get my second 6600 what are the constraints with matching the one I get now? i.e. do they even have to be from the same manuffacturer (e.g. MSI, PNY etc.)? Or do they need to be matched by just the model, i.e. 6600/6600 or 6600GT/6600GT etc?

I remember reading the original SLI previews and supposedly the HW did allow you to mix and match cards 6600/6800 etc... but I don't think that was implemented in real life (i.e. in drivers etc.)..

So am I doing something stupid here?
