why would i need it when i just came out of an ATI platform?
A person like me ignores budget and goes after the least problem prone hardware period.

I came out of very dark waters with ATI, and if u dont believe me, ask any of my friends.

I basically killed ATI for all of them. 😀

So its just based on your experience then?

AMD also wants you buying a new chipset/motherboard and Bulldozer CPU 😛

The fact that this is intended to coincide with Bulldozer really has me wondering what bulldozer is going to be bringing to the gamer. :hmm:

Why would AMD go to the effort of licensing SLI for bulldozer if bulldozer is going to be lackluster? :sneaky:

Could be a good Omen on BD performance?

its got to be. it seems like amd has bet the ship on BD. the rumor of them pushing forward the hd7xxx series of cards to coincide shortly after BD launch also supports amd wagering everything on this pair of releases.

It would be cool to run an AMD platform again. I haven't owned an AMD cpu since my A64 3500.

SB has not wowed me compared to an oced i7. I am holding off to see the 2011 based chips arrive. So AMD is going to have to do really well with BD and/or trump Intel on price vs performance to get my buck.

Awesome.

2 x GTX 460, here I come. I was worried that I would have to buy a new card to play BF3.

Of course, I might end up doing that anyway. How cheap can a 460 get? $70? Might as well jump to 28nm and not have to deal with 400+W of heat in my case.

I bet even a Phenom II can trump 2011 in terms of price/performance. Intels top end stuff has never been a good value(neither has their low end stuff, actually).

So does nvidia plan on making AM3+ chipsets, or is it out of the game completely now? Back in the day, nvidia chipsets were basically the reason I bought AMD CPUs. Of course, AMD makes awesome chipsets now too.

yeah, although I think its even more telling how all of Intel's Sandy-E sixcore CPUs are going to be unlocked

unable to put out an 8-core part and have to release unlocked 6 cores on 2011 to keep from being bulldozed...

Nvidia has said officially they're out of the chipset business. I don't see them changeing their mind anytime soon.

Makes sense I guess. Llano and sandy bridge have made them irrelevant. And there's probably more of a market for sli on bulldozer than there is for integrated nvidia graphics.

you've always been able to have sli on amd mainboards, just now you don't have to bother running that sli patch

Nice BS from a company that hurts the gamers on regular basis in order to promote its agenda.

They disabled the SLI on purpose, it's not like they add now a new feature and that's only because of the Lucid Hydra and the promising Bulldozer line they don't want to miss.

Amen. Nvidia's marketing team is probably more valuable to them than their engineering department.

Because having to download new drivers + 2 more hotfixes to get a game to run properly doesn't hurt gamers, right?

Get off your high horse in the past month nVidia probably released a driver a week.

Calling it beta drivers doesn't make it any better than a hotfix...

LOL you can run NV beta drivers for months before wanting to switch (more than needing to switch). On the other hand AMD users download a new driver, something doesn't work properly, then 3 days later the first hotfix comes out, it still doesn't fix anything, and 3 days later another hotfix comes out, and the cycle continues.

The more pessimistic view may be that AMD knows that BD won't compete and needs other platform incentives to make it an attractive purchase. "It's not as fast as Sandy Bridge, but at least I can run SLI on it..."

Wait and see. Wait and see.

Those were more like hacks not better drivers. Hacks to reduce Nvidia's useless overtesselation - that hurts the gamers. All of them but mainly the AMD owners, that's why they use it in many TWITMTBP games.

So WHO paid who?

Nvidia paid AMD to have SLI on their chipsets again?

Why oh why would AMD pay for SLI sertification when they are competitors on the GPU field and AMD would rather present a "complete" CPU+GPU package of their own brand?

Or is it some anti monopoly...thing or anti competition thing...that AMD cant turn down Nvidia on their chipsets?...OR..does AMD have any say in this at all?

i lack knowledge on this subject (and many others) so ...please enlighten me 🙂

And then Dragon Age 2 comes out and you need another driver to get better performance and then Shogun 2 Total War comes out and you need another driver etc.

Dude they both need to optimize drivers through betas and hotfixes so your point about AMD drivers hurting gamers is moot because nVidia does the same crap.

Can someone explain to me why is it a bad thing about AMD and/or Nvidia that now people can use SLI on an AMD setup?
