SLI is getting annoying thinking about new card

Right now I have dual 7900gts runnig 2 monitors so I have to leave sli off when not playing then turn it on when i decide to play. Half the time my monitors mess up after I turn sli back off and I end up having to uninstall the video drives then reinstall. I haven't stayed up to date with video cards so whats the best out there right now? Are the new cards coming out soon (as in a couple months) and I should wait?

While the debate about which card is "the best out there" is forever going, you seem like you are wanting to get away from SLI's nonexistent dual monitor support. If you want another video card that will perform like your 7900's in SLI and give dual monitor support without having a hassel, you might just wait until G80 and R600, maybe even ATI's refresh of the R580, the R580+. You could go with an X1900, but then you would probably suffer a performance decrease in games and just get dual-monitor support.

I say just wait. New cards are coming around the corner.

It works in SOME non-SLI boards(my own NF4 board isn't supported) but still has the limitations of SLI...(ie. you have to switch in and out of SLI mode to run 2 monitors)

You do not always have to have an SLI supported chipset on your motherboard to utilize that. I think there are like 52 or so boards that are supported by it and not all of them are nF4 chipsets or greater. You have a supported board anyway since you have two 7900gt's.

Like I said, in order to get the performance of a pair of 7900gt's without having to sacrifice dual-monitor support at the same time, you would have to have a very powerful graphics card. The X1900 is probably one of the best GPU's ever made, and the 7900 is a very, very nice competitor to it, but both when alone can not perform to an amount that you have right now. G80, R600, or maybe (but I doubt it) R580+ might be able to do what you are wanting.

You could wait, or you could buy an EVGA 7900GTX for now so you'll get your dual-monitor support and have a possible step-up available for a G80. You'll suffer a performance decrease for a little while, but compensate it for two monitors and a potential step up to a greater card.
