Ever since I started max Payne 3 and upgraded to 301.42 most of my games are running at around 20 fps. They usually start ok but then drop and stay that way. This does not happen to certain games , but it happens to most. After a hard restart they run + 60fps and then drop again. I've tried Rolling back drivers , any help would be great , thank you

You may have tried these, but it's always good to ask:

What do your GPU temps look like?

Have you tried resetting your nvidia control panel settings to default?

i have a 590 and this happens to me in diablo 3. I will go from 60fps (v-sync on) to 12fps. I have to restart the computer, but then it's fine.

@johny2314jj:
I'm not sure I'm qualified to say which tool is the most reliable, but I use Hardware Monitor and GPUZ.

@Daemas:
We'll need more information: what settings are you running at, what's your other hardware, how much OC, etc.

Also, same advice applies: check your temps and try resetting your ncp settings to default.

Right click computer icon-properties that will tell you your overclock. If you want help I'd advise you to tell people a bit of info or rather a lot more info e.g.mobo etc as you're making it difficult and time consuming for people to help you. Look at Don Karnage or my sig and you see the sort of info that's needed. Settings means what level and type of AA etc as those details let people know whether 20fps is reasonable. Unless the info is classified then keeping it cryptic means most people won't bother.

This happened to me in Skyrim, couldn't figure it out forever. Finally, I took the fan off the top of my CPU heatsink and cleaned off the house dust. Problem solved. Silly fix I know, I wouldn't have even mentioned it except that I had the EXACT same problem as you.
Good luck :)
