i've not been around this whole hot rod pc scene in some time so all this stuff is new to me. i just bought an Abit AN8 32x, 2 7900 GTX's and an X2 4400+ and i'm looking for some info on basic things i should be prepared to do, like patches and hot fixes.

i did read this thread http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=81429 but i wanted to make sure that is all i should be looking out for.

also if anyone has any good info on oblivion and sli i'd be grateful

SLI should work right out of the box, probably just a bios setting on the motherboard (possibly a jumper i am not sure on the new fancy board you have :D )

For dual core it should work out of the box with a new install of windows. I believe the patch is only if your upgrading from a single to dual core on the same install.

Same game patches i think are more geared towards games not working with any dual core solution.

so all i should have to do is load the drivers off the mobo cd for the chipset or what not and that's that? no patching or reg hacking or special drivers i need to download?

thanks i'll read that, i was just checking out abits forums and from what i can tell i guess i just need that nforce driver and a cpu driver, but which driver do i choose at nvidia?

when i select platform/nforce4, do i select nforce4 amd or nforce4 amd/intelx16? i'm guessing i should choose the nforce4 amd driver since is lists nforce4 sli, ultra and amd under product support.

just re-read dudes post above, i know how/where etc to install drivers for the other components, i'm just intereted in what i need to do for my core components and in what order? like back when i was pro nerd it was windows install, chipset driver, cpu or bs patch or whatnot depending on what you were running, then video sound etc etc

if anyone reading this has any good websites for overclocking this new stuff for noobs, it would not offend me. i know how to overclock and all the run of the mill stuff but i am clueless about this dual core stuff.

Actually

You'll want to install these drivers after youve installed windows and all windows updates:

AMD Athlon? 64 X2 Dual Core Processor Driver for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 Version (exe) 1.2.2 -
http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/Tec...lResources/0,,30_182_871_13118,00.html

Also if you start having problems with your dual core use this hotfix:
DONT USE UNLESS YOU GOT ISSUES!

Overclocking dual cores are the same for OCing Single Cores
