I havent been in gaming for years but plan to come back when Diablo 3 comes out early 2012.

i have a 21.5" 1920 x 1080 monitor and a 27" that does 2560 x 1440. :D

I'm pretty sure my Radeon 4850 will be able to play Diablo 3 at 1920 x 1080.

but what if i wanted to play at 2560 x 1440 (assuming Diablo 3 has that option) at low cost?
Upgrade to a high end video card?
or SLI/Crossfire 2 medium range video cards together?

and which cards for either scenario?

You don't need sli/cf for Diablo 3 at that resolution, your 4850 will be challenged by the game though depending on settings.

Any mid-range card for $100-$150 could run it on maximum settings for your resolution. 6870 is the best card going for that sort of price.

If you decide to play some other games, say BF3, at that resolution. Two cards would would be needed for a decent experience, or one very expensive card.

Diablo 3 (like most Blizzard games) does not have heavy GPU requirements. Its minimum requirements are a 7800GT/X1950. Heck in the beta I played it on a MacBook Pro with a 9800M in it, ran fine. That is a much lower res obviously. But if I were you, wait until the 7K's come out, and pick up a 6870 or the like for cheap.

Yeah for context I have played the D3 beta at 1920x1200 on its highest settings with an 8800GTS 512, it wasn't butter, but was playable.
