SLI Benchmarks

Forgive me if this has already been posted. Over at HardOCP they posted a screenie of SLI benchmarks run by Nvidia. Interestingly, a single 6800GT is still faster in DOOM3 than two 6600GTs running in SLI.

Judging from the relatively low FPS in Doom3 for the single card configurations, I would suspect that the settings are 1600x1200 with s good bit of eye candy. If these numbers are representative of what we can expect from SLI, there will be a market for this. However, I think it will with high end users and not those trying to save a buck by running two 6600GT's.

DOOM3 - 1600x1200,32-bit, 4XAA
Halo - 1600x1200, 32-bit, NoAA
3DMark05 - 1024x768 Default
Athlon 64 4000+ 1GBDDR400, ASUS nForce4 SLI

Not bad at all. I wonder what the system specs were and which resolution they ran those tests at.

Me too. That 9297 in 3DMark05 sure looks a lot better than the "SLI sets record" score from a while back.

Well, they are running a pretty crappy rig....

Athlon 64 4000+ 1GBDDR400, ASUS nForce4 SLI

too bad there are no pictures of that.

Didn't nvidia state earlier that they hadnt opitimized drivers for the Crush Chipset and only Tumwater?

Anyone have a couch I can sleep on if I buy this? With a hot daughter that moved back in after college, and likes to serve beer to middle aged gamers?

Just sell the boat, they suck money worse than the computer habit and require alot more work 🙂

I would imagine that they would have had a lot more time to spend with their own chipset - which they intend to market as a chipset for SLI, as opposed to Tumwater - a server chipset that most gamers won't use... Besides, do you really think nVidia was going to let an overclocked X800 XTPE beat their SLI rig in 3DMark05? I bet they had this up their sleeve the whole time just to make a few ATi fanboys eat crow.

Tumwater is server? I must be thinking about something else...

This simply proves that it's going to take ATi more than a dry ice cooled XT PE to beat nVidia 😉 They've got their work cut out for them, no doubt.

Well obviously two cards are gonna be better then one in this situation. However the XT PE does not equal 1100 bux like the nvidias and performs quite similarly

Um, an insanely overclocked XT PE isn't gonna cost much cheaper than two Ultra's, plus the ease of just plugging the card in versus ocing and testing and setting up the cooling apparatus. Both are insane, one in terms of cost, and the other in terms of cost (although it may cost a bit less), time and effort (But with the reward of personal achievement with the overclock). Respectable results for both tho, and either one would totally rock.

Well, I know for a fact how much it costs because I've done dry ice cooling. Costs 500 for the XT, 20 for the copper, and 5 hours a day costs about 2 bux in dry ice, thats not that EXTREME -_-

Objectivity Check:

These numbers come straight from Nvidia. Let's wait til Anand's numbers come out to get our panty's in a bunch ok? I love NV as much as the next guy, but we all know how reliable PR is...what with those 8 pipeline NV3x's running around.
