the specs i could think of i posted to my sig.

basically, my computer runs great when it works. there are more than a few issues im having with it though.

issue 1:
when running games (WoW, FEAR, specifically) i will sometimes adjust the video settings and the computer basically "burns" the last frame onto the desktop. its as if the game crashed to windows, but i cant see my desktop. all i see is the last frame of the game. i can still interact with the desktop (right click, open start menu) but i cant see anything behind the frozen frame. i have to reboot to get my computer back up and running.

issue 2:
when exiting games the entire system locks up. requires reboot. this doesnt happen all the time of course, but oft enough to ruin my experience.

issue 3:
when installing games (with multiple disks) and having to insert the next disc, the dvdr/cdrw will all the sudden stop responding to eject commands. i cant eject it with the eject button, and i cant eject it through the operating system. i can still browse through the cd directory and all of its subfolders, open files and such, i just cant eject the disk in order to insert the next one. i have to cancel the install and restart my computer before the dvdr/cdrw will begin to work again.

im running base windows xp (no service packs) and have updated all the drivers i could find:
motherboard drivers
video card drivers

i didnt update the bios. would updating the bios or windows XP to sp2 help?

the system is incredibly unstable, which breaks my heart because i spent more than $2000 dollars on it *sigh*

Bingo!!!

You have to have at Least Service Pack 1 installed, and recommended 2!

A high end machine like yours will not run properly without it, and you should be experiencing instability like you are.

Even i had stability issues with xp when it first came out, but ever since SP1, never had a major issue!

thanks man, greatly appreciated.

i never read anywhere that any service packs were recommended or required.

ill try and install sp2 as soon as i can.

thanks again.
