SLI 9600GT's on a new GIGABYTE GA-970A-UD3 AM3+ ?

there are 2 slots- x16 and a x4. can I SLI 2 old 9600GT's that I have on this board? I don't game much anymore, but I figure that 2 is better than 1 if it will work.

Well, I don't think any AMD chipset supports SLI, an Nvidia feature. Yours certainly doesn't.

ok, I thought the newer chipsets supported SLI and Crossfire. I'll probably just get a 6850 since they are pretty cheap now.

You may be thinking of the Intel chipsets, which have included the option of SLI support since the i3/i5/i7 release. Not all Intel chipsets with dual PCIe slots have SLI support, however, as it requires a the manufacturer to pay a licensing fee to Nvidia.

Wrong. Nvidia has recently given in to allowing SLI support on AMD Chipsets. Alot of the newer motherboards from the past few months have had SLI support.
Check a few of them out if you're looking to stick to AMD on your upgrade path..
