SLI 8600 GT's Vs Single 8800 512 GT ?

My boss is buying a new rig but would rather get 2x 8600 GT's over a single 8800 GT??

I am pretty sure the 8800 GT wil spank the SLI 8600's, correct ?

Look at this benchmark comparing a single 8800GT to a single 8600GTS (which is faster than an 8600GT, obviously). The 8800GT absolutely destroys the 8600GTS, with more than double the performance. Which should give you a good hint to my answer: the 8800GT is a much better choice. Especially when you remember that SLI doesn't always scale well and almost never approaches 100% scaling so you can probably expect 2x8600GTS to give maybe 75% of the performance of a single 8800GT.

Yeah I'm a fan of the GT, I think my boss just likes the idea of " two" GPU's in there.

Well, if Bassbombs prices are accurate, tell your boss he can get 2x8800GT for 220. Even if SLI doesn't scale, he will still be faster than 2x8600GT's.

EDIT: Cheapest 8800GT I see on newegg is 119.00 after rebate. Other sites may have them cheaper. Dunno.

Yes a single 8800GT would destroy dual 8600GT. Tell your boss that dual 8600GT would use more power, produce more heat and perform much worse than a single 8800GT 512MB.

I have 2 8800GTs in SLI mode (overclocked: 680,1650,1000) and I get close to 18000 points in 3DMark 2006. Tell him to get 2 of these instead or he'll regret it and punch himself in the face several times!🙂
