This is brilliant. The waterboarding would transition them from unconscious torture to fully conscious torture.

Happened to me once. I was ever so slightly awake after a night's sleep and was trying my hardest to lift my arms & move my head, but I couldn?t move any part of my body for about 5-10 seconds. Shortly afterwards I was properly awake and could move around fine.

Bit freaky.

I freak out at first then spend the rest of the time trying to figure out how to move.

I get Sleep Paralysis once in a while. I'm kind of used to it. I don't feel that scared anymore. It used to occur more frequently when I was a teenager. Back then it was terrifying. Right now I just "ride it out" instead of trying to wake up.

I got it for the first time about 9 months ago and it freaked me the hell out. Since then it has happened a few more times, but it has not really bothered or scared me too terribly much. But, wow, that first time . . .

I've had this for a few times before. Every time I've had it it's towards the beginning of my sleep rather than in the morning when I'm about to wake. Is it the same for you guys?

I hate it because when it happens I get nervous about going back to sleep in case it happens again, so I usually end up being awake for a while before going back to sleep.

has anyone ever gotten this? It's very messed up. I've get it once in a while, and it's totally weird. It's like being totally zoned out and between the dream world and the real world.

Last night it happened to me, and it was probably the most intense one so far. Normally I just get the feeling of not being able to move, and this intense feeling something is going to happen, and I have to try to snap out of it by moving fast, but yet I can't but as I keep trying I do succeed.

This time there was actually someone in my room that was hugging me and whispering in my ear, I can't really recall any of the words, but the last words before the person left was "you're going to die tomorrow". This "person" was in no way threatening, it was more like the person was saying bye. I tried to snap out and the person laughed a bit, then I tried again, and in a flash, the person was gone, and I was just laying on the bed in the same position and everything.

The messed up part is while this sounds really creepy, when you're experiencing it, it actually is not. I had zero fear at the time. When I "woke up" of it, I was more or less thinking "wow, that was kinda weird" and that's it.

it's a ghost messing with you. he just wants to play around though (which explains the laughing part).

Its been happening to me since age 13, 35 now. Seems to come in spurts and then wont happen for a year or so. Did notice that 95% of the time it does happen I am laying on my back in a bed or chair. Last time it happened I was trying to make sounds while it was happening so my wife would shake me so I could get out of it, she didn?t but the next morning she told me I was making a mumbling sound and she thought I was just having a weird dream.

OP it also sounds like you are having Hypnagogic hallucinations which are also common with sleep paralysis. If it is happening a lot you should get checked out for sleep apnea which is also common if you are experiencing these other things.

I used to have sleep paralysis, but it's been awhile since I've had it. Nowadays, my body does what you're talking about, which freaks me out.

I get it all the time. It doesn't freak my out as much anymore because I know exactly what is happening, and that the demon that is staring at me from across the room is just my laser mouse lighting up.

I used to have a roommate that would sneak into my room while I slept to pull pranks on me. After a while I started to have sleep paralysis dreams about it. I put a deadbolt on my bedroom door because of it and the dreams stopped pretty quickly.

My mom gets them all the time and every time she says it's the same woman with a dark silhouette that she sees in her room.

I experienced it twice as well. Both times a dark silhouette comes right over my body and I can't move. I try screaming for help but I have no voice. Scary ass sh1t.

It happens to me sometimes, but I never have hallucinations or hear noises or anything. I just lay there with my eyes closed and I can't move. Slowly I try to shake furiously and after a little bit I can finally move first my toes, then slowly the rest of my body.

It terrifies me every time.

If that is what being paralyzed from the neck down is like, count me the fuck out.

Hmm... I don't recall if I've ever had sleep paralysis. I do something that is equally as weird. I feel like I become something else... some kind of restless abstract concept. I get stuck in it for awhile, finally snap out of it with an odd lingering feeling that makes it hard for me to get back to sleep.

It's funny as I almost got it again a few nights ago, but this time I could actually feel it coming and I was stopping it from happening, I had not falling asleep yet. Totally messed.

My parents are forcing me into a relationship but yet I want to stay single at least for now (I'm still young and want to enjoy at least a few more years of being my own boss). I think this is a sign that my life is about to be taken away by some girl. It's been happening more often lately. It's actually kinda cool in a way.

wow, strange that someone brought up this topic because i just had one last wednesday night. Ive had experienced sleep paralysis before but this one was the weirdest one ive ever had.

that night, i left the light on in my bedroom when i went to sleep. in the middle of the night, i was awaken by loud breathing and shuffling next to me. now, i live alone and no one else was with me that night and i usually sleep on the left side of my queen sized bed. it was so weird, the shuffling reminded me of someone tossing and turning right next to me. i was sleeping on my back, and at this point, i had my eyes open and i was staring straight up towards the ceiling. i was fully conscious, but i couldn't move. I was thinking, "oh F*8K, not again". I tried really hard to move my body but nothing was responding. i remember after a minute or two, i just went back to sleep...

i didn't feel frighten at all throughout this whole ordeal, even the circumstances were a little creepy...

It happens to me once in awhile. You are in the middle of dream/real world. You try to move and talk or even scream but nothing comes out. My husband woke up becuase i was trying to wake up or atleast move. It goes away in like 20 seconds but that 20 seconds feels like a lifetime. When you wake up your body is hot or sweating.

In regard to the waking up instantly from a fall, do you guys accidently bite your tongue? It happened to me a few times and now that this has come up, I gotta ask the question. I don't want to end up biting my tongue off on accident one day :(

Yeah that's similar to mine it's weird how it's actually not terrifying while it's happening, yet thinking about it is terrifying.

And the falling thing is really weird too, It's been a while since I had that.

Another weird thing is waking up suddenly, like something scared you, but the body acts on it's own. I've always wondered if I really did shake, or if I only got the sensation that I did. I learned once that when that happens it's actually physically. My old cat was sleeping right on my arm, the sudden wake up scared the crap out of her and lets just say I had like 3-5 cuts along the arm from her claws. My arm looked like something in a horror movie. I was too tired to deal with it such as clean the blood and apply bandages so I just went back to bed as is, hoping I don't lose too much blood. The cuts were not that deep but it did leave a scar for a while.

What's scary is people who wake up with that and don't have a cat or dog.

I have experienced this about 5 times in my life. I hate it. During last couple of events, the last of which happened back in the mid 1990s, I realized I could still control my breathing. So to regain muscle control, I simply started breathing as deeply and as quickly as I could. My chest made me 'aware' of my torso, shoulders, mouth and neck so I would start rocking back and forth until I regained TOTAL control. This does work!

Try it next time this happens to you.

WOA interesting! I'm going to try this out this week. This happens to me quite frequently (especially when i'm out at sea), so I'm going to test it.

I sometimes get "someone is near me" paralysis as well. The best one was when a hot girl laid next to me :D

hmm... wonder if it was something i did that night that caused this event?

i remember that night i went to the supermarket and bought a 3/4 pound of sashimi (raw fish) and garbled it up by myself (same night i researched on mercury poisoning). before the supermarket, i sat through a boring arse condo board meeting that lasted 2 hrs....

so, maybe eating a large amount of fish protein could have triggered this or maybe the board meeting could have put my mind in a trance state that somehow is connect to the event that happened that night?

I think once you realize you can master this phenomenon, your body will not allow it to happen again. It hasnt happened to me since. Good luck to you.:sun:

edit: Do you have your own vessel or are you speaking of a cruise ship when sleeping out at sea? I think with all the pirates and whatnot these days, I wouldnt want to venture out and sleep in the middle of nowhere by myself.
