Sleep is such a waste of life

I can get by with 6-8, but my wife NEEDS at least 9 hours to not be a complete mess the next day.

Heard on the radio last week that a study showed that those that get less than 7 hours of sleep are more likely to gain weight. I noticed this with a few people I know that work the night shift.
Sleep is a very important part of the life process. All kinds of things happen in your mind while sleeping that balances out your your mental state. I'll reference you to ST:NG eps "Night Terrors" for examples of what could happen 😀

is that why security guards are fatties?

I've been going on 4 or 5 a night because I don't want to waste my free time... I have 2 infants so free time is free time and I use it the most I can. Well I got 8 full hours of sleep the other night because my body finally said that's enough... it was pretty nice... felt refreshed the next day and was just a lot more productive. I wasn't sleepy on days I only had 5hrs but my mind was just clearer and fresher, rather than feeling like "oh it's just another day". My recommendation would be to sneak in 8 hrs at least 2 or 3 times a week.

I got to have 6 1/2 - 8 hours or Im just a grumpy a-hole. Even more than usual. Besides I exercise and keep myself in shape so rest is important to me.

I stop functioning without sleep.

I hate sleeping too, as it does feel like a waste of time, but lack of sleep pretty much ruins me.

You have something better to do with that extra time? 😀

If you're waking up next to mosh...why would you want to be wasting your time sleeping in the first place?

(unless she just wore you out) 😛

No matter how much sleep I get, I never wake up feeling refreshed. So I gave up on trying and now get as little as possible without causing me to be worthless the next day.

I agree. Especially given the fact that I just about have to exhaust myself before going to bed unless I want to stare at the ceiling or toss'n'turn for 2 hours before finally passing out.

Indeed.

Of course you only need 4. So with 8 you're wasting a lot.

proof that you only need four hours!?!?

Been doing this for 15+ years. Perfectly healthy as full physicals every 180 days are done. Never get sick or feel tired. I'm constantly doing something or reading/working/problem solving etc. Never watch TV or mess with boring stuff like social web sites and lame computer games! 100% drug free and physically fit. Right now as I type this I'm listening to someone talk about a coupling problem with a stage controller, have an inbit window flashing on our corporate messenger that I'm getting ready to respond to and am getting ready to pick up a box of screwdrivers to pull a robo head apart that's been fussy the last two days! No time to rest and worry about "other things". 😉

Everyone is different. Certainly if you're not used to amended sleep schedule and one day you try to cut things in half you're gonna feel wasted. You just cannot do that.
