Slayer doesn't deserve a grammy!

Have you ever played Reign in Blood by slayer on guitar hero? It's seriously hard. Slayer has some great talent and deserved the win.

You'd have a point if it wasn't for the fact that Reign in Blood is over twenty years old.

EDIT: Well, and aside from the band's complete lack of ability to play a decent guitar solo.

I think they main and only reason they won is name recognition. Even non-metal listeners have heard of slayer. Not many people outside of the metal community know who the other bands are. People just check the box.

Well you can't completely say "in it for the awards." I can understand not being in it for a Grammy, but if the awards are fan based voting and not from industry elites and people who pay into a voting system, then wouldn't you think being honored by an award like that would be something any artist, metal or not, would love to have given to them?!

Injury, I think it is unfortunate that you think that a "true metal artist" has to follow a certain formula for you. IMHO, great artist(s) tend to be unique.

P.S. My vote is that "Between The Buried and Me - Colors" should have at least been nominated, and should have even won. One of my friends calls them the Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd of metal. If you enjoy progressive metal or great music in general I suggest you check this album out.

Unfortunately there are very, very few awards that are "fan-based" voting systems. You're absolutely wrong in thinking I believe that a metal artist has to follow a certain formula, but before writing an album if the goal you have in mind is to earn some corporate POS award then you're forgetting the two most important things right off the bat... the fans and the self-enjoyment. There are very few awards that are 100% fan driven. I'm not saying that artists CAN'T appreciate awards, but if awards are the reason you care about your music then you have, in fact, failed.

That Slayer album sucked and the thing didnt even come out in the past year so why it was on the list is beyond me.
