slass error

Hey guys, I am having a problem with slass.exe, or lsass.exe, forgot what it is called. But the thing is that it won't let me log onto windows XP pro anymore. It only used to do that when I had a CD in the drive when starting up the PC, but now it does it all the time. It says something about some invalid parameters or something to that effect. Anyone know if it's fixable? I would hate to have to reinstall the OS.

Okay, I chacked again, and it's lsass.exe, and the problem is that I can't even get in using safe mode so I can't apply the patch.
