Any Slashdot readers here? Can anyone verify that it hasnt been working all day? I feel lost without my community 🙁.

They were playing darts and someone messed up *really* bad. It had to be the
day they opened the case for dusting too....

The whole OSDN has been down today. This includes Slashdot, Sourceforge, and Freshmeat.. probably doing some hardware maintenence to the servers... either that or having provider problems.

Thanks ND - thats exactly what I was looking for. I was hoping it wasnt something legal. And your right - the Anandtech community does kick some ass. I go to Slashdot more for news and dork crap.

I go there about every 4 or 5 days to see what's new in the nerd world. Went today and was disappointed that I couldn't get to it.

Isn't InternetTrafficReport owned by Andover? I could hit that site just fine..

From a trusted source: OSDN is having router problems.

This seems like a VERY simplified answer to me. Im going to assume its an ISP thing or, yes, maybe some kind of DOS.

Two days down? Ive been reading since 98 and this has to eb some kind of record.

I keep trying to connect but I am getting no love from /. I like the community better here but the ideology is more my speed over there...

Slashdot is suck. Damn, I thought those open source boxes had 100% uptime...

A router... sure... it always takes a weekend to replace a router... I'm more inclined to believe this:

<< I just talked to one of Rob's closest friends on the phone a couple hours ago. Seems like Andover has pulled the plug and they're about to announce Chapter 11. There's no money to run the sites and Rob et al. are pretty bummed. They spent last night getting drunk. It was as much of a shock to them as it is to me (a faithful /. reader). >>

Maybe actually paying for things works sometimes...

Slashdot is back up. Here's a quote:

I'm still not exactly clued in as to why we're back online, but hey, we are. Sometime saturday morning our Cisco router melted down. Ordinarily this would only be the end of the world, but none of our qualified personel were available to fix it. And when our qualified personel arrived, we discovered that she wasn't actuually as qualified as we had hoped. Then she quit. Hemos or I will update this story as soon as we know what the hell happened.

Boy, don't you feel stupid now piku after that smartass remark about open source? Anyways, this thread was supposed to be about a web site being down, not about open source

The quote came from some post at geekizoid.com.

Now I never said that it was true, but I just agreed with the idea.

Slashdot.org, ThinkGeek.com, Freshmeat.net, Themes.org, GIFWorks, AnimFactory, and OSDN.com are down at the moment because we're experiencing technical difficulties with our network routing equipment.

The following OSDN web sites are still available:

SourceForge
Linux.com
GeoCrawler
