I still think its a horrible idea for Apple to prevent their OS from being able to run on any type/brand of hardware.

if apple tried to go for any type of hardware configuration we'd watch "rock solid stablity" go down to ZERO. They will stick to certain hardware so they can be sure that everything runs fine...

A quick scan reveals that this is UNCONFIRMED, UNSUBSTANTIATED and MOST LIKELY UNTRUE.

No NFO's, no Usenet, no IRC, no torrents, no groups screaming "OSX86 RELEASE SOON!"

I bet this runs like ass on x86, what the hell is apple thinking?

They're going to lose their niche market in an attempt to sell their souls to get more users.

You don't know what you're talking about. The dev kits run just as fast as a G5.

Oh I guess I don't

Tell me how they are going to have driver support?

Tell me how you can move from RISC to CISC and not lose performance on specifically designed hardware

This screams Solaris on x86 all over again.

x86 is a dying platform.. why would mac do that?

I think you seriously need to read up on the subject since it seems you're under the impression that Apple is releasing OS X for PC, which is NOT the case.

Care to explain what that means then?

Jeff Harrell writes for The Shape of Days. "The Intel-based Power Macintoshes that Apple is showing at their developer conference are based on an Intel motherboard, generic Intel graphics and off-the-shelf Pentium 4 CPUs...

Rock solid stability? I crashed an iBook just clicking around in the fscking finder.

Interesting, according to a friend at Mac they have been developing x86 builds side by side for a long time... this could be interesting if they get the driver support from developers

yeah i just searched google and read that the last 5 versions of os x were programmed to run on intel machines...what a secret

That is correct for the dev kits and they are running at G5 speeds.

However Apple will NOT be releasing OSX for you to buy and install on your Dell, it will only run on Intel based Macs.

They will get driver support just like they do now. Ati/Nvidia will continue writing drivers for macs and Intel will start making drivers for their Mac hardware.

It's not that complicated.

Go watch the WWDC keynote if you're still confused.

*Edit: I just noticed that you just found out that OSX has been running under X86 for the last 5 years... You are REALLY out of touch with the subject.

Apple has always kept x86 systems running in their labs since the M68k days, just in case something happened to Moto/IBM that cut off or severely limited supplies.

So because the official release won't be marketed that way what is to stop someone from writing a simple crack to make it work on any PC?

Nothing will stop them. I just don't see who's going to make the drivers for your dell or AMD rig...

Limited driver support.

Getting it to work on a PC will probably be possible. Getting it to work on just about any PC with all of your accessories won't be quite so easy I would think. Apple is only going to have drivers written for hardware that comes in their machine. Good luck getting that TV Capture card, etc. to work in OS X.

Which is what I was saying earlier... does that stop the Open Source community from writing drivers for most current hardware? Of course not.

It will be a huge floodgate blowing open.

I can see them writing drivers for all your hardware right now...

Good luck waiting on those.

Uh? Are you honestly denying that this will happen?

Plus you are referring to it like I am waiting for this... I already own a few macs..

Apple wouldn't have intentionally leaked this, they're freaks when it comes to controlling releases and PR associated with them.

That's it guys. The party's over. EyeMWing has confirmed, in CAPS no less, that this is a completely false rumor. He, the master of all things Internet, has not been able to locate a copy and thus, all claims indicating the existance of such "software" has been invalidated.

I'm not denying it, I'm sure some people will waste their time on it.

I'm just saying don't expect them to be writing drivers for all your crap. Have you seen linux driver support? 😛

the files, if they are real, are hard to find because they are not labled "OSX- intel" or something you would commonly think to use, or search for.

I'm still betting it's fake, but I'm just too damn curious.
