Slackware 8.0 Install ISO block size with Nero

Hi.....

I'm getting into Linux, but I want to understand what's going on underneath, so I hope to install Slackware and then hit the books!

Unfotunately, after I downloaded the three image files for Slackware 8.0 (Install, extras and source) and then tried to burn the ISO image using Nero 5.5.3.5, after selecting file -> burn image -> install.iso (selected via explorer) I got the following prompt:

The entered block size does not correspond to the image length. The block size may be wrong. Do you want to correct the value or ignore the problem? Correct or Ignore.

When I then choose "correct" I can then choose the image type (default DATA MODE 1), there's a checkbox for Raw Date, a select box for block size (default 2048), and options for image header and image trailer size and checkboxes labled scrambled and swapped.

Selecting a block size of 2352 also leads to the same prompt.

At this point I cancelled out as I didn't want to instigate an unecessary coaster by proceeding!

Does anyone know if this is normal under Nero when burning slackware 8.0? Or do I have a bad download?

Hope some slackware-heads out there can help me ;)

I have the same problem with Nero. For an iso, it asks too many questions and I don't know any of the answers.
My workaround has been to use ezcdcreator for isos. It doesn't ask any questions and whatever it's using works fine.
I'd like to know the settings in nero, though, 'cause it's a pain.

Oh, I found an answer at http://www.linuxiso.org/neroburning.html

Start Nero
Choose the menu command "File"->"Burn CD image"
Choose as file type: all files (*.*)
Select the ISO image file
Now you will see a dialog, asking you, if you want to supply detailed image parameters. This is necessary, since Nero needs to know exactly, what format the image file has to be able to burn it correctly.
Enter the following parameters:
- Mode 1 (assuming, that you created a mode 1 image)
- 2048 bytes per sector (corresponds to a mode 1 sector)
- 0 bytes header and trailer
- no swapping or scrambling

Click on "Burn".
User Feedback

One user wrote that having the 'Joliet option' selected caused the creation of several coasters. You might unselect this option if you have problems.

Another user wrote: If 'Finalize CD' (No further writing possible!) check box is not checked, a Nero - Burning Rom message box appears stating, "There is not enough space available to burn this compilation unless the CD is finalized after burning." "Do you want Nero to finalize it after burning?" Click the Yes button.

thanks for the reply, stirling.

I think in my case I had a bad image as all of the "defaults" were present and correct.

I'm in the process of downloading it again!

Thank you very much for taking the time to reply.

No, problem. You could use the checksum/md5sum if there is one.
Maybe save yourself the download time and coaster problems.

My Slack8 cd was made with ezcdcreator3 w/no problems.
Same w/solaris isos
(Obviously haven't tried the nero method yet)

Nero sucks for everything...Just use CDRWin, its really easy and light on system resources. You just click File Backup and Tools, then choose "Record an ISO9660 Image File," tell it where to look for the file, and burn! Simple as pie, worked for slackware 8 for me, and for mandrake and redhat and all other CDs I've ever burned.

HullBoy: I'm burned my copy of Slack using the defaults options of NERO, in fact I BURN every ISO
I get with nero, and I only have problems due to bad isos.....

And wellcome to the Linux world, have fun! I remenber read alot! Man pages, Guides, Howtos, etc
are your friends.... Slack is bit different from the usual newbie starting point ( Redhat and Mandrake)
but a very good choice nonetheless.... And don't forget Have fun, and we're here to help you if you need it!!

<< Nero sucks for everything... >>

Just because you don't have it or don't know how to use it doesn't mean it sucks!!!!!
Many, including me, consider NERO the best general purpouse burner out there!
Of course the best CD-Copier is CloneCD!!

I tend to think that some people have problems with Nero because its made in Europe
and not because of the program itself....
