I'm wanting to go back and play Skyrim with mods to make it look better, add extra stuff, etc.

I've downloaded and installed multiple mods but some of them don't seem to be working, specifically the ones that are supposed to improve graphics.

Which mods should I be downloading and how do I install them properly so they work?

Go to NexusMods.com

Sign up for a free account. Download their mod manager
Go to the Top 40 of all time (Non Nude).

Download like a mad man.

I just got back into Skyrim the other day.

I downloaded 115 mods in 2 days mostly from Nexus, but a few from the Steam Skyrim Workshop. :)

The two main ones you should download immediately are Sky UI, and Unofficial Skyrim Legendary Edition Patch

Check out Gopher on YT. He has everything on modding Skyrim for beginners:

When you get your mods set up, you should clean them. You're going to need TES5 Edit and LOOT. LOOT is great because it will flag down any issues with the mods you have installed. The issues are highlighted in red. It might seem difficult at first but it's not. Gopher has videos on using LOOT and cleaning your mods which is important. Do those first before playing the game. Good Luck.

Yes.

I am using the original version of the game, not the special edition. I'm not buying the game a 2nd time.

Did you check out Gopher's videos yet?

I'm using the original version as well. Maybe you have corrupted files? I've had a few issues, and that's why you need to clean the mods you are DL. For instance, I've gotten stuck getting out of my tent. I found the answer. I also couldn't move one time, so I had to restart an earlier save. The biggest issue I had was the intro. The wagon starts swaying violently from side to side. I found the answer.

You really aren't giving us much info. I'd go back into Nexus. Untick every mod. Then go back, tick off each mod and start the game to see what's working. not working. Jot it down on scrap paper. Yea, it's a pain but there isn't any other choice. Check out Gopher and his Skyrim videos. I've learned so much from watching them. Good Luck.

BTW, I have over 115 mods installed. Few if any issues.

I checked out his video and used the LOOT tool and it found 1 mode that needed fixing. I used the TES5 Edit tool and it did it's thing. I went back to the LOOT and it showed no issues now.
Started up the game, loaded my save and I don't notice any difference in the graphics. Mods like the SKYUI, one that adds extra magic spells work, but the ones that change graphics don't seem to be working.

trying to add SMIM, Realvision ENB, 2k textures....don't seem to be working

Try BOSS. It's another program that checks Skyrim mods to make sure you have them in the correct order, etc.

How many mods are you currently using? Maybe it's your video card? I'm out of suggestions. Try Googling your issue. That's the first thing I do and I usually find the answer.

Maybe start fresh? Or, at least get rid of your saves and start from the beginning.

Oh, another thing you should try is the mod configuration tab. There are a few mods like Realistic Needs and Diseases that needs to be started by the player. I don't remember having to do that for graphic mods though.

I ended up using Mod Organizer and that seems to have worked better.
The game still isn't as pretty as I expected, especially from some of the screenshots I've seen.
Some mods I'm still not sure to make work, like some of the body mods.

That's going to depend on your graphic card.

I just bought a mid range gaming laptop. It has the GTX 1060 6gb and Skyrim looks amazing w/ the mods I've installed.

I can't find a mod for the elks though. When you chase them they run underwater which breaks the immersion of the game.

I'll go back to Oblivion every year or two and play through with tons of mods (mainly FCOM). Last time I tried to play Skyrim, I took a whole weekend to download and install mods. The moment I got everything fired up and everything was working, the game still felt empty and boring.

I guess I'll stick with Morrowind and Oblivion. I never could get into Skyrim for some reason.
