Skyrim DLC's???

Quick question...buying Skyrim on Steam during sale. Is it worth it to buy the "Legendary Ed" which includes the three DLC's (35.00) or just Skyrim for 14.95?
 
I think so. I found a lot to do and there is a lot of new gear in the expansions. Some pretty interesting storylines to explore as well.
 
I'd recommend checking out some YouTube videos on the DLC seeing as you have the rest of the day to make a decision.
 
Buy the base game now and play it long enough to see if you really like it. There's enough in the game to keep you busy until the holiday sales and the DLC should be on sale again.

If you need more then grab some user made add-ons: Moonpath to Elsweyr and Falskaar are two I highly recommend....
 
I would get whatever you can afford. I played through the base game and it felt like it needed a little more. Dragonborn received much better ratings than Dawnguard from what I remember. I'm not a fan of the vampire stuff so I just did Dragonborn myself.

I'm playing Falskaar now. its great

edit: finished it. damn good add-on. also downloaded moonpath and just started it. so far is great!

I'd recommend just the base game. I think the best experience for a first time skyrim player is to play the vanilla game and not to bother with any DLC/Mods until after beating the main storyline. However, don't rush to get through the main storyline. Have fun and explore and do whatever you want. There's a ton of content in the base game, easily 100+ hours worth. After that I'd look into the DLC/Mods. The only mod I'd make an exception for is SKYUI. Skyrim's user interface is made for controllers and SKYUI does a wonderful job changing it for PC's so I'd install that as soon as you can. Nexus Mod Manger is your place for all the mods:

I'd like to note that the DLC's can be turned off when launching the game. So if you get the base game and see an insane sale on the DLC you can pick it up without having to play it yet. You might not want Dawnguard installed since Vampires start showing up around lvl 10 and can perma-kill certain NPC's. Or they can infect you with vampirism which can be a pain to get cured.

How could you dislike Hearthfire? It's just allowing you to build your own home and enable you to adopt kids, right?

I don't think there's any additional quest lines in Hearthfire, unless I'm wrong 🙂

nothing like fetch quests to build a house.. must agree Hearthfire was.. lacking.

Also it was buggy. There were odd glitches that would cause your spouse to be perma-killed (and you couldn't remarry) or end up walking backward after they were kidnapped. In my playthrough I tried to buy a children's room in Riften but it never showed up. I ended up never playing the DLC. Maybe the unofficial patch eventually fixed it but I'd recommend against buying it.
 
I enjoyed Dawnguard and felt it had a stronger story to it. Dragonborn was kinda meh and it only took me about 2-3 hours to do the main questline, it was very straightforward. The dragon flying is clunky and obnoxious.

Dragonborn is full of meaningful, permanent rewards though. Theres four or five permanent passive buffs available and once you finish the main story it unlocks the ability to respec your perks as often as you'd like.

Hearthfire was kinda cool for $2.50, but there's honestly nothing there you can't get in the base game by buying at house in any town or any of the billion "my house" mods available. I wasnt really into the decorate my house stuff so I kinda just built a full house and left it be. By the time having your own enchanting table, full blacksmith, alchemy lab, etc is attainable you're probably long past any genuine benefit from having them all right there.
