SkypeOut reminder - $14.95/yr expires TODAY!

Question to Rossman.

My parents are in India and I am in the US. If they buy this, can they call me for a year for just $14.95? Right now, they just use the regular skype out.

the unlimited is just for US and Canada, other countries are billed at different rates and will take credit from your skype out credit

India is $0.154 , but they have different rates for calling to mobile and certain areas/cities

it is for outgoing calls, they know where the call is originating from

Got in on this a little while ago. I love it. I also got the Skype browser plugin that converts properly formatted phone numbers into links that auto-dial in Skype. Way cool.

This seems like such a hot deal, and I want to get in on it, but I can't even manage to use all of my cell phone minutes each month. 🙁 I hate talking on the phone. 😉

It does not matter where you?re calling from, only where you?re calling to. Sitting in London and calling your friend next door costs the same as sitting in Beijing and calling your friend in Paris. All SkypeOut calls are subject to a connection fee of $0.039.

That kinda made me curious, hence my question.

I need some clarification on who will be using Skype? Your parents in India (outgoing) or you (incoming)?

If you want to receive incoming calls using Skype you will need SkypeIn which is around $39/yr for unlimited incoming calls.

If your parents in India want to call you and you're located in the USA/Canada then you are correct. It doesn't matter where the call is originated from, just the final destination which is here in the USA.

All your parents need is a computer, high speed internet, Skype, headset and SkypeOut then they're ready to roll. Hurry because the 50% off price ends TODAY!

Please keep this bumped 🙂

Is there a comparison chart between Skype and Vonage? I assume there's a lot of features Vonage offers that Skype doesn't? (Trying to figure out why there's a big price difference between the two, even if you set up Skype to make and receive calls)

If you use your home phone a lot, at least 20 minutes a day I would go with SunRocket or Vonage. Skype can work but it's not as convenient and lacks some of Vonage's features. My phone use is very infrequent, one month I'll use 200 minutes and none the following month.

With Skype your computer has to be powered on running the Skype client.

With Vonage you don't have to leave your computer on but it is $360 per year ($30 x 12) for their unlimited minutes plan.

$360 vs $14.95

is this like making a direct call like Vonage ?

meaning if I get a VOIP phone, I just dial the numbers ?

I think that is correct.

If you're looking for a cordless VOIP phone I'd recommend the Linksys CIT200 or CIT300.

Have the Linksys CIT200 iPhone and it's great! 🙂

I have the Linkss CIT200 and CIT300. Great phones.

If you use it for just a few hours this year, it will be well worth it.
