I tried to use skype when they were doing free service to make a call from Germany to the US, and it didn't let me because it was not coming from inside the US. I don't remember if this was something to do with the fact that it was free or not. Anyways I need it to work in Mexico to the US. It lists it at calls for the US at $.021 cents a minute, if I put money on the account and pay it will it work fine from there? Or do i need to go to the trouble of setting up a proxy at home to use for calls.

I don't know about proxy but Skype Out does work from outside the USA into the USA. I used it when I was in New Zealand to call family back in the USA. The connection quality wasn't that good but it was worth 2 cents a minute.

Well, I don't know why it didn't work for you, but it worked fine for me in Germany, Switzerland, and Colombia. My fiance uses Vonage now in Colombia and it is flawless.
