wow that thing is a total ripoff!

shipping is another $16, but still cheaper than a pc60 or something (and it's alu, not steel)

very similar to the pc-7, but not really a clone if you look @ the make. the overall structure is very similar (locations of buttons and bays). but the hd casing, the actual buttons, etc are different. but i paid $80 for mine. $35 is a really good price.

I ended up ordering one. I didn't really need a new case, but always wanted one like this.
$55 shipped with tax and should be at my place in 1 or 2 days.

I wouldnt touch a skyhawk case with a 10ft pole. My experiance is there low build quality. So what its aluminum?

Despite the myth, aluminum cases do not run "cooler" then steel cases. Sure aluminum makes a way better heatsink then steel BUT case temps never get high enough that the case will act as an effective giant heatsink.

Aluminum is just weaker and vibrates more hard drive and fan noise then a same thickness steel case. Plus it cost more.

If you have to go with an aluminum case then get a higher quality brand at least.

Noooooo!!!!

I'm now in the hunt for a new case for the new rig I'm building after what seems like an eternity.

The first thing I look for in any case, so I can rule it out RIGHT off the bat, is the USB/Audio ports.

Honestly, I think I must be one of the few odd balls who actually keep their mid-tower on the FLOOR!!!!!

I have a large L desk and every square inch is precious to me, so if I can put my PC on the floor, all the better. And traditionally (for those who believe in defending the sanctity "traditional computer case values", tower cases - mid or larger - go on the floor! :)

Hence, when keeping a tower in it's traditional floor location, it makes absolutey NO sense to put your front USB ports at the absolute VERY bottom. (Heck even for those who put their cases on their desks, it makes no sense! Except perhaps for wired USB devices (which I connect to the back anyhow), but I'm considering Jump/Flash/Thumb drives)

--------------------------------------------------------
My Dream Case (in order of importance):

1) USB/Audio/Firewire connections at least mid way up the case (with or without small door covering them).

2) Solid construction with good air flow.

3) No significant lighting! I keep my PC in my room. I have MORE than enough LEDs on various pieces of equipment lighting up the room while I try to sleep. Plus some games need as much darkness as possible.

4) A reserved, but stylish look. Nothing ridiculously flashy, but not TOO bland either.

5) No front doors! What is the purpose of this? I can't possibly imagine why I would want to bother with a door on the front of my case, hindering access to optical drives, card readers, etc....

6) Inexpensive ($50 or less). I'm not interested in spending a fortune on a case, unless it comes with a quality power supply of at least 480 watts (then $100 or less for case/psu combo).

7) 120mm fan mounts (prefereably front and back). For quieter operation. Or any configuration that is relatively quiet yet gives good air flow to keep the case cool.

8) An intake fan washable air filter. Not sure how much this helps but I think it would keep much more dust out of the case.

9) Mostly tool-less design.

10) Color not too important so long as it isn't too loud a color.

11) Side window would be nice but not too important.

12) Easy open (latched) sides would be nice but not critical.

(Other pluses but not a deal breaker - removeable motherboard tray, lockable side openings, nifty display for case/cpu temp, and anything else that is cool but doesn't violate any of the above rules :p )

I'm not planning on being in and out of my case on a weekly basis, so easy access and modification ease is nice but not crucial.

-------------------------------------------------

Are there any kindred spirits in prefering such a case?

If anyone knows of a decent quality case with a decent cooling profile that fits this description I would LOVE to hear about it. Thanks.

I have this case and I think it's great. The build quality is nice and it's not as flimsy as I thought it was going to be when I first got it.

I bought the one they had for like 10 bucks last week. It built up fine- seems pretty light and chep but arrived intact with no problems/issues. Frankly if I was planning to keep the system I'd spent a few extra bucks and get one of the cheaper antecs on sale.

I don't think the $9-10 one is the same case. I have this case and it's nice for the money, sturdy with all the parts installed. Not perfet but ok, big slideout motherboard tray is nice. Looks great and I didn't want windows and lights either. Lots of thumb screws, ain't gonna guarantee you can get them all out with your fingers though unless you have a big S on your chest.

Glpster - I was looking for a case with the ports on top and you are the only other person I've seen that mentioned it. Reviewers don't seem to care. They must have oragutan arms. I got this thinking at least it has the ports flush, no doors. I can put a port unit in the top bay(s) if needed too. This case could have a filter in front at least, can't recall back. It can take several fans. I have 2x80mm in front one 80mm in back with the PSU fan and the AMD3200+ runs 38c normally with stock heastink, not overclocked currently. It is fairly quiet too. I got 6 Speeze fans to have on hand for about $1.25 each in bulk at newegg. Shipping discount too when you check out. Total for 6 was less than $20.

My only dislikes -
1) the front panels have a raised dot that keeps them in, while building it's easy to whack the case and they can pop loose.
2) can someone PLEASE come up with a standard plug for the front USB/Audio ports! My fingers are way to big to get all the tiny individual wires plugged in on the board and I havn't had time to work with my wife to do it yet for me. She's very good at it and has micro fingers, I read the diagrams and coach. I read a good idea recently - once in, I'm gonna put some super glue along the outside to hold them together as a unit.

I did find other cases at Newegg with ports on top, some are too far back though. Others are much more expensive, ymmv. I would've bought the Athentech case but users said mods needed for AMD.

I agree. If it was $35 including shipping, I would be all over this. I have the Lian-Li PC60B and they look pretty similar. I paid $79 + tax for it about 2 years or so ago at a local store. So this is a good price but better with less shipping charge. Good find OP.

only 1 case fan included...that sucks

they could of thrown in a couple more inexpensive 80mm fans and simply raised the cost of the case a few bucks... would save u guys the hastle and extra cost of looking for, buying, and installing them yourselves

I got it yesterday and installed the system last night.
1st thing I noticed was how light this case is. The build quality is decent and it looks like it does in the pics.
I took everything out of my Enermax case (Frys $60) and moved it over to the new case. No problems installing components and routing wires.
Started it up and the fans were a little louder than my old case. It was mostly the videocards fan.
Temps seemed good but the top got warm after a few hours of gaming. It needs a blow hole.

2500XP@3200
6800GT
2 7200 HD's
2 DVD optical drives
Cooler fan and 3 case fans (panaflo)
3.5 bay rhoebus
Antec 430wt true ps

Overall it looks pretty good and has enough space for me. Thumbscrews for everything is nice, though I had to use a screwdriver to open some of them. I don't care for the feet and will remove them later.
The sliding mobo is conveinant, though a little flimsy imo. It's one of the better looking knockoffs, just not the same quality as the Li.

On another note I was dealing Skyhawk cases a few years ago and this was my case that I used up until a few months ago, except that mine all came with twin side fans big 120mm fans they were.

Dealer cost on these when they were released was $185. $59 for this case is a great bargain, and Skyhawk makes this case very well, very sturdy and probably there best case.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Well after an exhustive search, I finally found THIS case, which is now on its way to my front door. I got the silver front bezel. Chenbro Xpider (Gaming Bomb) PC61166

More very good reviews are available on the Chenbro web site under awards. Here

It fits most of my Criteria.

My Dream Case (in order of importance):

1) USB/Audio/Firewire connections at least mid way up the case (with or without small door covering them).

Nope! But! I realized that I can install front port USBs/Audio/Firewire in the 3.5 or 5.25 drive bays. I got one which includes a multi memory card reader.

2) Solid construction with good air flow.

According to all the reviews I found. This thing has very solid construction and excellent air flow.

3) No significant lighting! I keep my PC in my room. I have MORE than enough LEDs on various pieces of equipment lighting up the room while I try to sleep. Plus some games need as much darkness as possible.

This case comes with no standard front or interior lighting. Install as much or as little as you want. :)

4) A reserved, but stylish look. Nothing ridiculously flashy, but not TOO bland either.

Stylish? Yes.
Reserved? Yes (silver or blue models)
Overy Flashy? Nope
Too bland? Nope.

5) No front doors! What is the purpose of this? I can't possibly imagine why I would want to bother with a door on the front of my case, hindering access to optical drives, card readers, etc....

No front door! Hassle free drive/accesory access. Thank you.

6) Inexpensive ($50 or less). I'm not interested in spending a fortune on a case, unless it comes with a quality power supply of at least 480 watts (then $100 or less for case/psu combo).

I found this case for my max of $50!!! Silver was harder to find. Lots of Green and Orange out there. Especially Orange. Ugh.

7) 120mm fan mounts (prefereably front and back). For quieter operation. Or any configuration that is relatively quiet yet gives good air flow to keep the case cool.

120mm Fan mount on the back!! Woot! 92mm on the front! Also good.

8) An intake fan washable air filter. Not sure how much this helps but I think it would keep much more dust out of the case.

Yes! Intake air filter on the front. And from what I can gather it is removable and washable.

9) Mostly tool-less design.

Almost 100% tooless design! Sweet.

10) Color not too important so long as it isn't too loud a color.

Classy and stylish color.

11) Side window would be nice but not too important.

Reserved and stylish side window. Not overtly obtrusive. Can put internal lighting (if wanted) without it being too much.

12) Easy open (latched) sides would be nice but not critical.

Pretty much.

(Other pluses but not a deal breaker - removeable motherboard tray, lockable side openings, nifty display for case/cpu temp, and anything else that is cool but doesn't violate any of the above rules :p )

No motherboard tray. :-( Lockable side - Yes! Display for temps - No, but could be installed.

-------------------------------------------------

And ultimately the look and style of this case really appeals to me.

I'm happy with it. So far anyway. As I said, this case hasn't arrived yet. So I can't say if I have any complaints yet.

^isnt it kind of obvious that a company would ONLY post good reviews on their website?

Heh.

Yeah, and as far as I can find, they are most of the reviews out there (which is why I provided that link). And the few others I found around the net are also glowing. So... I figure it must be a decent case. And actually the reviews they posted do have some criticism in them. For instance the lack of a reset button (which I never use anyhow), and it's being fairly heavy.

Does anyone sell this same case only in black or is there even a Skyhawk in black aluminum?
