Skyfire (mobile browser) is AMAZING

Info: http://venturebeat.com/2008/01...browse-the-mobile-web/

I signed up for beta testing a while back, and was able to d/l it just today--and it really is as close to a desktop internet experience as you can get. It renders each and every website as if you were on a desktop, including all flash/ajax websites flawlessly.

Above all else, it loads pages incredibly fast (on my 3G phone at least), and you can go through them smoothly. I now load imeem on there so I can have access to any song in the world, and create a playlist with basically anything on there. It's essentially the coolest mp3 player in the world..I can even stream the more...risque youtube clones out there on here too 😉

Have you used the Opera mobile browser? How does Skyfire compair?

Oh I was about to mention Opera--and while I do love it, Skyfire absolutely blows it out of the water. I always found opera to be kind of slow at loading pages, but liked how it rendered pages fully..and Skyfire loads pages as if they were in mobile form, at full capacity.

Only thing though is that with Opera when you zoom in it'll load that section right away, whereas Skyfire's zoom function is more like the iphone's in that it takes a second to render after you zoom.

Not to mention of course that it loads flash and other web platforms.

I'm starting to sound like a spokesman for Skyfire now 😉

I just got my text a few days ago saying I can download it - problem is, I don't have WM anymore! Now I have to wait for the Symbian release.

I'm still waiting for my beta email, according to some people I should be getting mine in the next few weeks, which is great cause I just picked up an at&t tilt and it is an amazing phone

Hmmm... I wonder if someone else can use your invite if you can't.... I'd be interested if you could.

i like it a lot better than opera mini too. i was watching cnn.com movies and everything. it feels a lot more polished than opera mini. PPC 6800

My battery is dead, plus I've got no 3G out here. When I get back to my place I'm going to check this out (WM6/BlackJack II/3G).

EDIT: LAME! You need to be allowed into the beta? Anyone more fortunate, please send me a PM 😛

How is it compared to Safari on the iPhone/iPod touch? Pretty tough to be that IMHO.

It doesn't have the same "cool" effects of using your fingers to scroll and zoom (I can move around with my finger nail, and double tap the screen to zoom)--but with 3G the pages load a lot faster, and the fact that it can process every Flash/AJAX page puts it above the iPhone..
