SkyDrive for Android is Out

A couple of months ago Microsoft was giving out a free 25gb offer for SkyDrive, and a lot of people said it was useless because of the lack of a Microsoft supplied application. Well Microsoft released one today:

It fits nicely into the whole Holo theme with a bit of Metro:

Oh this one I'll have to try out. I tried the 3rd party apps and they were pretty terrible compared to even DropBox or Box's outings.

One question, does this allow me to set it so that content is uploaded at original quality no matter the size? This is a major problem with Google Drive on mobile devices that has me still using DropBox.

Just tested out a couple of picture syncs and it retains file size/quality as far as I can tell :thumbsup:

I had a couple of videos on there before and I'm fairly sure they retained file-size and quality. Took them down though because Skydrive handles syncs differently on PCs and I only needed my videos in one place.

IIRC they upped their upload file size to 2GB recently, so I'd imagine they expect large files to be stored there.

That's awesome, I didn't think it'd be out so soon. I was nerdily excited when they announced that it was coming.

I dont like Skydrive at all. Google docs is a million times better. Or just plain old email.

My school requires us to use Windows Live Mail and its a pain. Oh, and WP7 doesnt support it properly.

why is it that i can't find it on play.google.com and on the play store on my phone? The Verge linked me, but it's always new apps that I have trouble finding for the first day or two.

The same happened with Instagram. I couldn't find it til later in the afternoon unless I had the direct link.

I think it's because there are other 3rd party apps that link to SkyDrive that have been out for awhile.

I searched for "Microsoft SkyDrive for Android", and it was one of the first few apps listed.

I'm sure in a few days, it'll be the top choice for a search for simply SkyDrive.

its nice...but dropbox seems so sync a lot quicker for me, and sharing access is much easier. im really thinking of switching back to it. people at work and i shared a dropbox folder and it was great, but i was running out of room with just 2 gb of space

skydrive gave me gobs...but sharing it is not at all as useful or slick. ive the got the transformer infinity so ill be trying the new app out anyway

We've had this debate before in which a forum member here tried giving us a false alarm warning "be careful with Google Drive, but not the iCloud, SkyDrive, or DropBox!!!"
Yelling fire in a theater isn't really useful when there is fire everywhere else.

One should either be equally paranoid about all these cloud services and not use them at all, or be comfortable with all of them.

Microsoft is the only one with a morality policy and regularly hunts down users that violates it. Yes obviously storing sensitive files on the cloud is stupid and you should be careful regardless of the service you use but MS policy is just downright silly

That could mean your account being banned because your girl took a picture of you on the beach even if it was stored on a private folder and not shared. This also includes cartoons so a marvel comic with Hulk could also be viewed as violating the terms

What nonsense are you going on about?

Wife and I use Hotmail/Skydrive for files, email, contacts, calendars. Works great across PCs with the Skydrive app and Live Mail, my WP, her iPod Touch, and even the Kindle Fire handles the web version just fine. Push email, sharing calendars, files etc etc etc. Can share web documents with Web Office and photos and videos easy too.

My DropBox jumped up to 8GB after I uploaded a good amount of pictures and video from the camera. I find that 8GB more than covers everything I use it for.

Microsoft automatically downgraded everyone to 7GB and those with pre-existing accounts had a limited amount of time and opt back in to the grandfathered 25GB plan.

Wonder how they find that stuff? They have a warehouse full of college interns snooping through all the SkyDrive folders? Or perhaps some revolutionary computer AI designed to find boobies? It'll be interesting when that AI goes rogue against humans.
