Skydrive-25gigs free-go get it!

If youve got a skydrive account go log in and upgrade. You'll get 25gigs free storage with individual file sizes of up to 2gigs.

I know its not strictly speaking on topic for this forum but theres apps for iOS, WP7 and Android so I thought it might be handy.

Theres also a couple of new clients for osX and windows.

Thanks for the heads up. Just logged in to keep the 25 GB of space.

However, there is still no android app which makes this service useless for me other than to long-term store data.

Edit: looks like there are some 3rd party apps I"ll have to look into.

When I log in, I get 7GB. Did I miss the possibility to get it bumped to 25GB?

Thanks, guys, but it appears that I'm new and they've already changed it.

When I go to Manage, it says that I have 7GB free and I can upgrade to +20GB for $10/year. It's actually a pretty good deal compared to Dropbox, although paying $10/year for something that was free yesterday is pretty annoying.

This article is interesting... sort of a rollup of the state of things with Dropbox, Skydrive and a mention of the mythical "GDrive".

Oh, and lest someone say "this topic isn't relevant to MD&G", as witht he OP I feel that there's a deadline to this topic (current Skydrive users need to log in or else they'll lose 18GB of space on their accounts), and one of the main purposes for this push towards cloud storage is mobile device. It's close enough to on-topic to leave it alone.

Is there way for 3rd parties to access a specified directory without logging in? Sometimes when I need to share work files, I use Dropbox, but the people getting the file have to be registered members.

Sweet, I was able to get 25gigs. Could have been the length of my account, or that I've used it to share files via Office Live in the past (those files were already on my drive account).

Just 7gigs for me since I couldn't remember my old Hotmail account. Still I'll take free 7gb. Free is good.

Don't know about SkyDrive since I just installed it, but they do have many sharing options.

On dropbox, you can just use the public folder? I have seen people post direct links to files somehow too I think.

Yes. You can select any file and create a "view only", "view and edit" link, or make it fully public and searchable. Not sure if it embeds though:

redir.aspx

or

baud_joke.jpeg

Looks like the first isn't an option, I think you have to select "make public" then "view original" and link from there... assuming any of you can see the 2nd link.

Thanks for the tip OP, got my 25 gigs. Now I have dropbox, skydive, sugar sync, and box. I'm thinking about getting rid of everything except dropbox and skydrive

How is that a good deal compared to Dropbox? 😵

Yeah, good point. That was poor wording. I was actually looking at the 50GB, not the 20GB when I wrote it. For Dropbox, I don't know of any way beyond finding a whole lot of friends to get to 20GB.

But on the Dropbox page I see the "Pro 50" for $10/month or $200/year
For Skydrive, I see the "+50" at $25.00/year.

So, that's what I was thinking when I said it was a good deal compared to Dropbox.

Yeah the new skydrive paid storage prices are very reasonable and significantly better value than dropbox..... the big question is what the mythical gdrive pricing will look like when it launches.

The 100+ deal for $50 is a really good deal. Depending on what gdrive costs right now that's the plan I'm going to choose.

50GB and above is an excellent deal compared to Dropbox, I completely agree.

25GB though, not really(for me at least) because I already have 25.88GB with Dropbox.
