Was gonna go skydive with the woman this weekend, wondering if any of ya'll have been before. Looking at doing just a tandem jump to start off, see how it goes and if it's something I want to get into.

Do It. I've been before. It was a lot of fun. It's a lot more tame than most people make it out to be. Basically, it feels like you're floating--you don't get the falling sensation except for two times :
1) immediately falling out of the plane
2)when you first pull the 'chute

the whole jump is pretty nice. if you're going up, try to get the pilot to go another couple thousand feet higher. it makes for a longer jump, and 2000 feet higher isn't much to worry about (oxygen, that is). it's a pretty good adrenaline rush, and i suspect that if everyone knew how tame it was, there would be a lot more people doing it

DO IT!!

I've done a tandem jump about 2 years ago and now, finally, I've started taking a course! So the 12th of may I'm jumping out of an airplane by myself.....YES!

so my advice: GO GO GO!

I've wanted to go ever since I went parasailing. To get the full experience, I really want to jump solo but was told i exceed the weight limit. I don't think I can enjoy it attached to an instructor. I get enough all week with my boss and the peons here strapped to my back.

I believe you'd need an oxygen mask or at least hold your breath for 30 secs if you're jumping from that height. It's definitely worth it.

nicene is right when he says that you're basically floating out there b/c you're at such a high altitude that you never seem to be getting any closer to the ground. I also believe that you get sensory overload b/c you're falling - granted - but at thea same time, you hear and feel all the wind blowing against you.

If you get into it, you may want to look into doing an Accelerated Free Fall. My friend did it and told me about his experience. Basically, you take a 4-6 hr instruction teaching you how to land and navigate the parachute. Then when it's time to jump, two other experienced jumpers hang onto the frills on your arm and leg and the three of you fall at the same time. When it's time for you to expand your canopy, they make sure everything is fine - and pull it for you if needed.
