It seems as technology progresses, the Skycar idea gets closer to becoming a viable reality. It has been tossed around since the '50's........the current implementation of the idea makes the cover of Popular Mechanics at least once a decade.
Remember the Bond movie that had the wing adaptor that attached to a car, making it a "flying car?" It existed......didn't work too well, but it did exist.
This will continue to be vaporware for the rest of us........flying takes a completely different set of skills than driving does. Ever consider why flying lessons exist, and how expensive they are? Ever try to recover from a stall or spin?
This will continue to be just a playtoy for the bored engineer......will never become a viable alternative transportation system for the rest of us until flying is taught in school.
RSI........while volant has as its primary definition "flying or capable of flying", a secondary definition is "agile; moving quickly or nimbly", and a third is "Heraldry. Depicted with the wings extended as in flying" . American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, Third Edition, p. 2001.
