I just watched Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow yesterday and, I swear that had to be some of the worst acting I've seen in a long time, and I see a lot of movies!

Gwyneth Paltrow is a horrible actress, I can't believe people are dumb enough to get her roles, wtf are they thinking?

Well everyone sucked pretty hard core in that movie, even that guy, wtf is his name? He's been better in other movies but he just sucked in this one. I just couldn't help thinking that the movie could have been so much better had the acting been somewhat decent.

Ahh, Jude Law is the name.
 
Damn me and my buying movies on a whim, I need to stop doing that, I swear I've wasted so much $$ over the years, oh well.

i agree the story should/could have been so good with the fx..... it was a good flick but had so much more potential.

It's a throwback movie. My god people, this movie wasn't made to be a showcase for Oscar winning acting or script writing.

I thought it was a fun movie, with incredible visuals. Reminds me of a lot of older comic books.

How's that different from any other movie? Half the time when you're acting (at least a lot of the time), it's just you, a whopping big camera lens in your face, a microphone on a stick, a bunch of 1000-watt plus lights, and a roomful of guys holding wires, reflectors, "fingers and dots" (various shapes of partially or fully opaque material on sticks to block small troublesome lighting problems), etc. The person you're having the deep romantic moment with or emotional confrontation with isn't in the room because there's no place for her to fit.

Greenscreening everything is a little extreme, but it's not *that* far beyond the pale.

One time the other half of the conversation hadn't been written yet and the role of the woman I was talking to hadn't been cast either. That's not typical, though; that kind of thing usually means "not enough pre-production."
 
Just saw it:

Acting---as good as can be
Graphics/Effects---very good, excellent even
Story---puke!
Movie as a whole---puke!

A complete waste of time. The idea behind the story is somewhat interesting, but the characters, their dialogue, and the Events that transpire were horrid. I understand that the film maker was trying to recreate an older style, but I certainly didn't recognize it and if it is an authentic older style, perhaps it's a style that ceased to exist for a reason.

That said, the last line of the movie
"The lens cap"[/] at least ended the fiasco on a positive. I wish Gwyneth's character was trampled to death in the opening scenes, take out that character and the rest of the movie had a chance to be something interesting, but no, they had to keep that "shot" obsessed wench until the end. :| I like Gwyneth Paltrow's acting and thought she acted her character as welll as anyone could, but what can one do with a crap character? Same goes for the other Actors/Characters, as good an acting job that can be expected given the characters.

Theory: Some Actors must have a contractual obligation to make a crap movie. Sky Captain must have come around just in time for Gwyneth, Angelina, and Jude to fulfil their obligations.
