Skunk Problem

My cats food bowl is being cleaned out every night... turns out its been skunk thats coming from a neighbor's yard (he gets in from under the fence). I've caught him in the act, but theres not much I can think to do aside from scare it off (for fear of futility/being sprayed).

Anyone out there have skunk issues? How did you solve them?

btw its a residential area so i cant just shoot it :(

You could put a bunch of sleeping pills in the food. Maybe it'll fall into your pool and drown.

Run up and pick it up by the tail before it gets a chance to spray. It can't spray unless it's back feet are on the ground.

I don't know how agile skunks are, but maybe you could feed the cat on platform the skunk can't reach.

i built the cat a stilted house thats 2 feet off the ground, with the food on the deck area. the skunk gets to it no problem. i fear that if the foods much higher than that the fat ol cat wont be able to get to it.

Get a black female cat and dye a white stripe on it's back. Use it to lure the skunk away.

I think that only really works on Looney Tunes...

How about something that requires a short climb and jump to get to a feeding platform? I'm thinking of something like a pair of separated cat towers like they have at the pet shop, perhaps wrapped in jute twine instead of carpet. The cat would climb one pillar, then jump to the feeding platform.

My concern is if you get rid of this particular skunk, you'll end up with another interloper sooner than later. It would be better to solve the general problem rather than the particular.

heh... interloper :)

thats a great point, and based upon this thread/intergoogle searching im thinking your "second tower" theory might be best. for all i know there could be 20 damned skunks all wanting a shot at my cat's food.

thanks for all replys! even those that were looney toons related.

How about a nice bowl of antifreeze next to the cat food. Lock your cat up to make sure it doesnt start consuming it.
