Skulltrail in a Mid Tower? Why YES!

Gillbot

Lifer
My latest build:

Yes, that's a Skulltrail stuffed into a Cheiftec Dragon mid tower. I can't believe it does fit, albeit VERY cramped!!

Specs:
Intel Skulltrail (D5400XS)
2x QX9775 w/ Aerocool DCC-C900 Coolers frankenmodded with thermalright backplates
16GB FB-DIMM (4x4gb) Kingston
Chieftec Dragon Mid Tower Case
PCP&C Silencer PSU
Radeon 4870 Vid Card

Build is far from completed as I haven't decided on a HDD yet but it runs linux pretty well as can be seen in the background!

There is a window on this case!! I need to get a drive buttoned up and get some nice lighting in there too, then pop the side back on for more pics!

Beyond the Valley of Awesome, which is located in the state of Astounding!

One of my fav builds of all time was my MSI P35 Neo2-FR with my E6550 and AC Freezer 7 Pro. That thing was a screamer running 500fsb all day long.

Then I listened to someone (AHEM AIGOMORLA) and upgraded to a Q6600 and my upgrades spiraled downhill fast from there!!

How much did it run you for that MB and CPUs? Are you overclocking at all? heheh

I'd prefer not to disclose pricing as I won't want people to know what my soul is (or isn't) worth! 😱

I can assure you though, it wasn't cheap. Aside from that, I was clocking them close to 4GHz but after tangling with the HD4870 they've been running at stock clocks since.

i plead the 5th....

i merely showed u what door was available... you took the choice in stepping though it.

😛

not my fault if u wanted the blue red and pink pill, over the nyquil to make you goto sleep.

If it's not your fault, then why do all these giant boxes show up here with your name on them as the sender? **taps foot**

Misery loves company....

If u didnt experience all my hardware woes.. you'd think half the stuff i was ranting about is shins...

This way, you get to pull your hair out as well, and we both can grow bald! 😀

Whats next gillbot? 980X on a ITX platform? 😛

I have kids to make me bald, they don't need your help! Besides, Skulltrail makes facebook FLY!

Is there a 1366 itx board? If so i'd try it!!

i still have that board rocking in my fileserver.

currently has e6420 underclocked to 2.0 and fsb oc'ed to 333

i did 454 x 8.0 with a q9550 E0

DONT click on that picture. When I did, I got a pop-up asking me if I wanted to install something into firefox, and the page with the pictures on it went away.

ImgShack runs tainted ads, be careful.
Ad Block Plus and No Script FTW.

I should have never gotten rid of the MSI and E6550 setup. 🙁

The case was free from CL. But thanks.

Not trying to be a dick, just saying it's funny. I had my current rig in an Antec 1040 (almost identical to yours) just until a few months ago. I got sick of 80mm fans whining all night :|

then maybe you can appreciate the situation i found myself in about two years ago.

i had an abit ip35-e which clocked really well with anything i threw at it, and i also had the msi p35 neo2 fr.

after i went to p55, my friend from work asked if he could buy one of these legendary lga775 boards from me. i agreed, as at the time i really could use the money. and the choice between letting which one go was agonizing.

i let the ip35-e go and he got his G0 e6850 to 3.7 on it.

Given that choice, I would have made the same decision. I wasn't the biggest fan of the IP35-E even though it did clock well. My MSI's have always been rock solid for me despite all of the nay-sayers. I went from the P35 Neo2 to the P45 Neo3 and it clocked to nearly 600fsb on air, but it was quite the battle to get it there.

Still rocking a full tower Chieftec Dragon here !! Talk about a hot deal .. I got it for $19 + $7 S/H way back in the day.
I also have an Antec 820SX case (in beige) but I can't bring myself to put any newer hardware in it as I hate beige cases with a passion now.

Gillbot, you'd be screwed if you added a bigger vid card to that build, as those drive cages are what take up most of the space on the interior.

Yeah, it's pretty tight anyway. I have to pull so much apart just to swap HDD's as it is now.

I traded for a full tower case the other day, so if it has mounts for EATX there I may migrate this system over to the true full tower so it has a bit more room.
