Skoorb's thread of shame.

"Everyone else is doing it, why can't I?"

So here it is, I am 5,11 and have eaten my way up to a morning weight of about 198 and about 22.5% bodyfat according to my Tamita scale (I think it's fairly accurate).

Eight years ago I had hit 197 after drinking beer/eating fast food/playing video games 5 nights/week for a couple of months, and I then lost it and stayed below 180 range for years, down as low as ~167 back in 2006 after a lot of triathlon training. I was at ~180 this summer and still very fit, and then this fall concentrated on finishing my basement, eating a lot, and not working out enough. No booze or games, just overall sloppy approach to myself.

I'm not sad about it, unfortunately (it would be motivating). This has gone on long enough and I'm having a hard time fitting into most of my clothes, and my previously-decent pecs now simply look like titties, I can't lie. I quite literally know what it's like to be a woman and look down at perky tits. The muscle is still there but with a fat layer over top.

So today is Day 1: 198 lbs.

The first 10 lbs will go quickly, probably no more than two weeks (half being glycogen, fluids, etc.), then it will slow down.

Pics of your tits? 😀

Seriously, good on ya for making the effort to regain your previous fitness. Hopefully you're back in shape soon.

Aren't you using his pic as your avatar? 😀

OP, congrats for doing something about this. Just make sure you stick with it. I'm on the crux of being able to exercise again, and I'm really looking forward to altering my weak and fat physique.

[Sir Mix-a-Lot]
I like big butts and I can not lie
You other brothers can't deny
That when a girl walks in with an itty bitty waist
And a round thing in your face
You get sprung, wanna pull out your tough
'Cause you notice that butt was stuffed
Deep in the jeans she's wearing
I'm hooked and I can't stop staring
Oh baby, I wanna get with you
And take your picture
My homeboys tried to warn me
But that butt you got makes me so horny
Ooh, Rump-o'-smooth-skin
You say you wanna get in my Benz?
Well, use me, use me
'Cause you ain't that average groupie
I've seen them dancin'
To hell with romancin'
She's sweat, wet,
Got it goin' like a turbo 'Vette
I'm tired of magazines
Sayin' flat butts are the thing
Take the average black man and ask him that
She gotta pack much back
So, fellas! (Yeah!) Fellas! (Yeah!)
Has your girlfriend got the butt? (Hell yeah!)
Tell 'em to shake it! (Shake it!) Shake it! (Shake it!)
Shake that healthy butt!
Baby got back!

^ Here's a reason not to lose weight lol.

Tri season is fast approaching skoorbie, you can do it. What's your plan?
I'm not exactly sure actually. First and foremost a strict restriction on calories but beyond that probably cycling for cardio. I don't want to run with this weight and they won't let me in at the pool (scare people away).

My intent is not to make this another thread with a lot of details and impressions. Not a diary of much at all beyond my weight and its quick progression in the proper direction 🙂

Haha Skoorb, I mostly see you posting in P&N, so my first thought was that I accidentally clicked on P&N instead of H&F, my second thought was "holy shit, someone admitted he was wrong in P&N"...

hahahahahaha

Anyway, good luck man!

5'11" 198# sounds about right for an adult male to me. Just squat, deadlift, press and clean heavy barbells for 2 months to fix body comp at same bodyweight. Plus, that way you don't have to waste ridiculous hours on tri training 🙂

Depends on what he is going for. If he is wanting to run, then a lower weight will put much less stress on his body. I'm ~180ish right now and will likely be down to ~175 before my next marathon. That's on a 6'5", broad shouldered frame. Now if I was still playing ice hockey regularly again (and were not running), my weight would easily be ~200 and I would be training completely differently trying to bulk up and increase my upper body strength.

Good luck, Skoorb. IIRC you're in your late 30's - I was about 37 or 38 (4-5 years ago) when I made the same commitment to myself - I think it was February as well. I was also the same height/weight as you are now.

I cleaned up my diet, bought some weights, and hit the stationary bicyle a couple of times a week. I got down to about 178 and looked/felt so much better. Now I'm pretty steady at 172, and look better than I ever have in my life.

I never had titties though. That's just gross.

Late 30's? Hmmm.. I am going to guess early 30's, 33 tops. I believe we are right around the same age.

Great progress you made. Feels so good to get healthy and look good again.

I am 32 good guess, alm99!

Yeah, no argument. As a kid I didn't like my breasticles. I thought I had gyno. But when i have been very lean before the only mass there is chest muscle, so I don't think it is actually gyno or anything crazy. Unfortunately my pecs and lats respond very well to weight training. Lats that's great, but pecs not so much because when I carry any extra fat I need a sports bra. I wish my legs responded better 😉

Your legs will respond when you just work on the squats

12reps x 4sets to start with : start at say the bar bell and work on it, go as low as you can, each session s mash on 5lbs each side, you build up the reps, lean better technique and 'ease' your tendons, ligaments and joints in to it. The volume will also help your triathon goals.

Less weight and go for a rull ROM

You can do it man! You done any training since this post? Get back on it man!

Good luck, if you want real man boobs, do what I did and hit 255 lbs, I'm just 1" taller than you.

Like you gained 10 lbs, 215 lbs to 225 lbs, finally figured it was time to get my weight down. I've been at it since mid-November, 193 lbs of this morning. The challenge for me isn't losing it but keeping it off, though I'm more wiser now about what I was putting in my food. Such as I'll won't use regular Mayonaise and switched to Kraft Sandwich Spread for my lunch at work, easily cutting out 120 calories right there.

Isn't it amazing how much the little things can add up? My wife laughs at me because I refuse to drink calories (other than the occasional alcoholic variety and rarely otherwise) but if you're not careful, you can easily rack up several hundred calories per day, which can easily put some pounds on over time.

No doubt that's how I put on most of my weight. Carbonated beverages, lemonade, grape juice...blargh.
