Skoorbie's Shelf!

very nice 😀

How is the video gaming going? BTW is there a pic of you 2 up somewhere. I see you guys posting all the time and I wondered what you looked like.

Not bad, for a Canadian 😉

How long did it take to build and finish/stain it?

Was the wood all pre-cut, ready to go?

Cost?

<---does a little woodworking.

What did you finish it with?

I finished it with minwax English Oak stain and then poly'ed it for protection! It got two coats of stain and three of the poly. 🙂

LOL

It took a few hours to build it, Skoorb is perfectionist to say the least. As for staining, it was very quick to do and the time was just in the drying. All said, it was finished within 24 hours. We bought four planks from Home Depot and had them cut for us. I think Skoorb's total on it was $28.

There are lots of pics of us floating around...our wedding link was posted a while back. Search and ye shall find! 😀

Very nicely done, it looks storebought. I have done a little woodworking myself, and it requires patience and a stead hand.

I'm a fan of Minwax too. Their Antique Oil Finish is my favorite for pieces that don't see much wear.

Thanks guys, Skoorbie is going to feel good reading this when he gets home! 😀
Just taking a very quick second break between fixing some stuff at work 😱

My next project will be even better! I'm happy that the thing is functional and looks decent for a first go around. It's really not hard to do, but just takes a bunch of measuring. Instead of "measure twice, cut once", I measured about 8 times and cut once.

If the RossMeister didnt ask, I would have.

Looks good for a Canadian, but $28? That seems kinda steep. OD routinely runs $15 off of $50 bookcases, so you could probably have had a 5 shelfer delivered for $35 or so.

very nice. when i owned my farm i had one barn converted into a workshop for my cars and woodworking.

nothing like being out in the barn with a beer and makeing some sawdust! 🙁

Until I see pics I'm gonna assume that those $35 bookshelves are pretty sad 🙂 I used this one to replace a $20 job we'd bought from office max or something. With furniture you get what you pay for - the other one was falling apart even though it was only about 6 months old. My one you can pick up from wherever instead of having to be careful that the shelf will lose its weak grip on structural integrity if you look at it the wrong way.

We went to unfinished furniture and got ideas for stuff. An equal sized shelf from there would have cost about $50 or so. Its quality would have been higher, but once I have the right tools I can make this one even better!
