"Skipping" in XP

Two programs are accessing my HDD, CIDAEMON.exe and CISVC.EXE. When they do, their usage shoots up and my system skips. What's going on? Its really annoying with the mouse and winamp both skipping.
 
umm try killing those apps then. BTW I dont have those in my XP install. might want to check for viruses and trojans
 
they are system apps..they were there before, i think they have something to do with the index service, which i want to keep. It was working fine until yesterday when I ran Windows update and defragged.
