Question Skip 75 Hz

My laptop has a faulty display. I plan to buy an FHD monitor. I am confused between 75 Hz and 60 Hz monitors. I intend to connect laptop and monitor using HDMI out. Can I use a 75 Hz monitor ? Will it work for me ? Or should I stick to a 60 Hz monitor ? I use Ubuntu 20.04 and Display settings show 60 Hz. Thanks.

I use Ubuntu 20.04 and Display settings show 60 Hz. Thanks.

Even if your laptop has the oldest version of HDMI it should be able to display 1080p at 75Hz, even if it can't because maybe the drivers don't allow it you still can use the 75Hz monitor at 60Hz without any issues.
So yes buy whatever monitor you like, you will be able to use it.

Thanks. Anything else to look for when buying an FHD monitor ? I am planning to buy a 22 inch IPS Display ( based on the listings ). Is TN panel better than IPS ? Those are the 2 options I see in online listings. I am not a gamer, I use it mainly for browsing, VLC and some graphics software like GIMP, Inkscape and Blender.

If your current display doesn't work at all right now your system might not be configured to display on an external display so this should be your first concern, find a hdmi tv to connect it and see if it works first.

Thanks. It is working for now. But some lines here and there across the screen. I think another few lines, it will be hard to use. You are right, not set for external display as of now.

is there is any benefit to set 60hz to 75hz i have asus monitor 28inch 75hz currently using 60hz
only in certain circumstances. When there is very fast movement on the screen, higher refresh rates are better. If your games look like a fight scene from Transformers, you may want the higher refresh.
