Grades 6-8 usually, high school 9-12.

I don't know what grades are. Homerboy explained it though.

Hrmm, they keep saying 'college'.

That's because after 6th form you can continue to study at a college, other subjects that they don't offer at your 6th form, for example Woodwork etc. However colleges don't do degrees like universities do, they tend to continue A-Level work (or the same kind of complexity) which is what you study at 6th form college.

Neckarb:

Grade School: 1-5
Middle School: 6-8
Highschool: 9-12
College: 12+
(though you can "go to college" at a College OR a University)

Hang on... You guys go to your college at 12?! We have:

Nursery School, Age 1-5
Primary School, Age 5-11
Secondary School, Age 11-16
Sixth Form/ College, Age 16-18
College or University for continued education.

Yeah we have the same thing, but College's here don't offer degree courses, they just continue "College" level work.

Fantastic! Watched S1 of this show on demand a while ago. Pretty much every episode had me laughing to the point of tears at least once.

Awesome isn't it?! I love that show, it's incredible I guarantee you'll love the next two series as well :). The best thing about it is that it accurately shows exactly what school life is like in England. :)

Same for me...the cast was so perfect in seasons 1 and 2 that even after giving it 3 or 4 episodes I could never really get back into it.

I thought seasons 3 and 4 were SO much better than 1 and 2... Just because of the cast. Funny how different people like different things about the show. I loved the Emily/Naomi stuff. I liked Cass and Cid a lot from S1/2, too, but it still didn't really compare for me.

I watched Season 3 and 4 first, though, so that probably had an effect.

6 or 7?

Starting The Inbetweeners tonight!

Edit: Why is British TV SO much better

No Idea, I think it's that we have a good history of making TV programs, Black Addder, Monty Python, Fawlty Towers etc so we strive for greatness with every show. Some fail, but you don't hear about those.

Enjoy the Inbetweeners, DON'T WACH IT WITH PARENTS OR CHILDREN. That is all. It is so accurate that it's almost absurd.

Cool, I'll let you know what I think.

When you mentioned that Skins S3 is a good depiction of Highschool (College for you), what were you referring to exactly? The antics and stuff they do at school, or the mentality of the kids, or what?

I don't remember saying that... :( I was only ever saying that about The Inbetweeners.

yes they start 1st grade at 6-7 years old.
There is also PRE-schooling which kids start between 3-5 years old, but to my knowledge is not required by most states. (my kids started at 3 though)

The Office is amazing. The Office: An American Workplace has issues.

I think maybe you just can't appreciate the wit from the UK.
I can appreciate things that are good. For example, Monty Python is generally good. QI is one of my favorite shows. Skins seasons 1 and 2 weren't bad. Most of the rest is crap, including The Office.

Just got my wife hooked last night. Though sadly she started watching while I was on the last 3 episodes of season 3. I figure she can start in on season 5 with me tonight (Airs soon on the BBC right? Within hours?) and then she and I can go back and rewatch 1-4 together too.

I've just realized that BBC america is showing Skins, but obviously in the first couple of seasons. Annoyingly shows take their sweet time to arrive on BBCA.

The show is on E4 anyway, which isn't a BBC channel.

Series starts Thursday at 10pm.
