Ski racing question

I am not sure if this was raised in the Olympics thread:

When did they start painting the boundaries and/or the curves of the courses in the snow for things like the downhill, etc.?

I do not follow ski racing, but I am pretty sure I did not see that at the last Olympics or anything non-Olympics I had recently watched.

Racer safety, especially in flat light, fog or blowing snow. That gives the racers a visual reference to where the edges of the safe line are so that they know if they're widely off course.

they used to just throw pine needles on the course, same concept
