Definitely a GREAT change of pace from Tony Hawk. That game just got ridiculous. The best THPS IMO is the 2nd one on psx.

Better than Tony Hawk, but I still didn't care for it. I like progressing my character instead of being given a sandbox to play in.
From what I understand, based on what I've read and watched in interviews, that is not the case. the only progression in the game is 'fame'.Originally posted by: ric1287
you do progress your character, just not like tony hawk where in the end you have a guy with perfect stats in every category.

I like it too. I just wish you could change the camera angel.

I'm shocked that EA actually came up with a good idea tht worked on their first attempt.

I really liked the demo, but I'll probably end up getting it when it's < $30 used. I really liked the controls though. I've never played the Tony Hawk series, but I expected a skating game to be nothing but "button mashing." That wasn't the case with Skate at all. I really liked the controls.
I'm wondering though, how is the game structured? Are you supposed to work your way up to be a pro skater, or are you just doing tricks trying to get points?
They should have called it Skate or Die.

Skate or Die was already created in the 90s

Hey thanks sherlock. 😛 It was actually the 80s. And it was developed and published by EA, who also developed and published Skate.
The designers expected too much from the flickit system. It's a great system but not THAT good.
also, I hate you run into things and get stuck in between two flights of stairs, then you have to completely STOP and turn. I wish it was more like tony hawk in that aspect, where you just turn the body and he gets himself out of the crappy spot.
